Florida Man is a seven-part genre-blending Netflix series co-produced by Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan’s company, Aggregate, as part of a multi-year deal. The plot revolves around a gambling addict ex-cop being sent to his home state of Florida by mob boss Moss in order to search for Moss’s runaway girlfriend Delly, but the search becomes a treasure hunt and TV version of the famous Florida Man meme.
Here’s a quote from our review:
The feeling is of a deliberately attention-grabbing first effort designed to prove a point rather than cohere into a compelling story. One supposes that emulating meme culture will produce such a result almost every time because meme culture is fundamentally incompatible with basic storytelling principles. You can’t have your cake and eat it, in other words, even in Florida.
But what of the show’s potential future? Here’s everything we know:
Will there be a Florida Man Season 2 on Netflix?
Renewed or canceled status: TBC
At the time of writing, there has been no official confirmation of Florida Man Season 2.
However, the show was conceived as a limited series. As we saw in the ending of Florida Man Season 1, the story is, for the most part, over. There are still many eccentric characters and lingering subplots that could potentially be expanded upon if the show is a runaway success (which it’s unlikely to be given that an important metric for Netflix is how many people complete a series, and Florida Man is at least two episodes too long and doesn’t really pick up until the end), but should that happen?
A show about a meme is in the unique position of having virtually limitless material to draw from but no justifiable reason to actually draw from any of it.
While we’ll update this article once we know more, our official prediction is that Florida Man will not be renewed for a second season.
It is a terrific fast paced exciting thriller with great characters and wonderful writing and plots…kudos…merits more yrlling6
