This article contains major spoilers for the Florida Man Season 1 ending, particularly the events depicted in Florida Man Season 1 Episode 7.
Florida Man is a seven-part genre-blending Netflix series co-produced by Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan’s company, Aggregate, as part of a multi-year deal. The plot revolves around a gambling addict ex-cop being sent to his home state of Florida by mob boss Moss in order to search for Moss’s runaway girlfriend Delly, but the search becomes a treasure hunt and TV version of the famous Florida Man meme.
Here’s everything that happens in the seventh and final episode, which for the record is also one of the season’s best.
Florida Man Season 1 Ending Explained
The most intriguing hook of Florida Man is how it morphs into a treasure hunt, as we learn Delly is pursuing a chest of gold doubloons. In the opening of this finale, “Sunk Costs”, we see how that fortune came to rest in the sea way back in 1715, a casualty of inclement weather, long forgotten.
Why did Sonny have Mike arrested?
While Mike languishes in jail, his father Sonny unexpectedly arrives, which leads to a surprising bonding moment.
Sonny explains that he had Mike arrested to spare him from having to cross the moral line of killing Moss. It was a father’s protective instinct, in a weird way.
Sonny also claims that he’s in there because Andy framed him for the Porta Potty explosion – one of the real Florida Man memes, by the way – but Andy later tells him it’s because he’s linked to a drug-supplying boat.
How does Moss die?
Moss bails Mike out of jail so he can help him find the gold.
With no other option, Mike leads Moss and Delly to the dock, where he makes the treasure truck float to the surface of the water. But the revelation that the loot is missing causes a fight between Moss and Mike.
During the struggle, Delly shoots Moss both out of necessity and as revenge for him killing her father. Ketcher arrives to retrieve his gun and the three of them sink Moss’s body in the treasure truck.
Do Mike and Delly end up together?
After a while, Mike uses another Florida Man meme to inform the story of Moss’s death. He accuses Sonny of moving the gold, which he admits, as an attempt to keep it away from Delly and to keep Mike in Florida.
It’s Patsy, who Mike makes amends with, who convinces him to track Delly by GPS. He does, which leads him to a boat containing both her and the treasure. Florida Man ends with her asking Mike whether he came for her or the gold, and while it’s obvious which, it very much seems like he ends up getting both.

I was glad to see he ended up with Delly and the money in the end. What doesn’t fit into the story is the black ex wife. They are shoving black people in parts just because they are black and not because it makes sense to the part. She did not fit the part at all and she was a poor actress. Start casting people because they are the best fit for the part not because they are black. Most of the movies, dramas, comedies are so bad these days they are lucky to rate two stars. Their aren’t any good writers, producers or directors out there any longer and now we have casting trying to cast people in parts just because they are black. This was not a great short series but compared to most I was able to make it to the ending which wasn’t that bad of a feat.
