Summary

Fatal Attraction is hands down, the rebirth of the erotic thriller that we need. Jackson and Caplan deliver, making this a must-watch series.

We review the 2023 Paramount+ series Fatal Attraction Season 1, which does not contain spoilers.

In 1987, James Dearden and Adrian Lyne combined to make the film Fatal Attraction. The film starred Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, which led to six Academy Award nominations. Fast forward over thirty years later, and Paramount+ has released a series based on the film. Can the series recapture that magic the original movie did?

Fatal Attraction Season 1 Review and Plot Summary

Fatal Attraction is a psychological thriller that follows a passionate affair that takes a volatile turn for the worst after a mistress refuses to allow her married lover to end their fling. The series stars Joshua Jackson in the lead role of Dan Gallagher and Lizzy Caplan as the woman Dan is having an affair.

The series kicks off with multiple timelines. In one, we witness Dan’s life as an attorney, which includes his affair with Alex, while in the present day, he is being released from jail and trying to reconnect with his daughter while clearing his name for the murder of Alex.

Each episode peels back the layers of the affair, the murder, and everything between Dan’s rise and fall.

We live in a day and age where erotic psychological thrillers are a thing of the past. So it was a nice breath of fresh air to have Fatal Attraction not lose sight of the original film’s sexual tension but blend it wisely with the edge-of-your-seat thriller. It helps quite a bit that the two leads deliver the goods.

Jackson and Caplan’s believable portrayal brings this series to another level. Jackson, who I already think is an underrated actor, has this charm about his delivery in his lines as this larger-than-life attorney that makes his attractiveness go to another level.

Factor in Caplan’s sex appeal that rises to the occasion, and the two are electric together on the screen.

Is Fatal Attraction Season 1 good or bad?

As a film fan, I was optimistic about how the series would capture the magic that Michael Douglas and Glenn Close brought to the screen. However, not only did they do a great job with the casting of Jackson and Caplan, but the writing is so good that they make the series something you can’t stop watching.

Is Fatal Attraction Season 1 worth watching?

The most challenging thing that will happen is that everyone must wait week to week to watch the entire series.

It’s so good that you wish you could binge-watch all eight episodes. Between the stellar performances and the sexual tension that the series brings, Fatal Attraction is top-tier television.

I would love to see Jackson, Caplan, and the series as a whole recognized by the Emmys this fall.
