Summary

Lizzy Caplan thrives in Episode 3 as we start to see Alex’s games unfold, causing a dramatic ripple effect.

We recap the 2023 Paramount+ series Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 3, “The Watchful Heart,” which contains spoilers.

In the first two episodes of Fatal Attraction, we got the setup of the affair that jump-started between Alex and Dan (Joshua Jackson).

With Dan pushing away Alex (Lizzy Caplan) and Alex deciding their relationship is far from over, how does Dan handle the pressure while trying to clear his name in the present day?

Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

The episode begins with Dan talking to his fellow attorneys while Alex overhears and purposefully misses the elevator that he is on.

After an odd moment of staring into the mirror, we see Alex talking to a client about her case. Earlier, we saw her throw a fritter away, but moments later, she handed it to a guard who said, “We can’t keep doing this.” Although, we see a different man eating it, making her upset.

The sentencing phase has begun on the case in which Dan and Alex were working together, and things get a little weird in the courtroom between the two. Regardless of nothing being said, she took the interaction as a win. Later that evening, Alex has an odd interaction with her neighbor, showing her crazy side.

We see Dan and Ellen out apartment shopping which gets a little weird when he brings up Arthur, her stepdad, and asks specific questions about their relationship. When he starts to talk more about it, it turns his daughter off, making her leave.

How did the fire start at the restaurant?

Early in the season, we saw Dan and Alex at dinner, where the sprinklers went off. What we didn’t know was that Alex was the one that started the fire. We see her go into the bathroom, grab some tampons and light them on fire.

Of course, the sprinklers set off moments later, leading them back to her house and sleeping together for the first time. Every single move she has made with Dan has been calculated.

This entire episode is dedicated to seeing how Alex has played the game of getting inside the heads of those around her.

Every move she makes is thought out well before she makes them. From her relationship with the neighbor to her relationship with Dan, Alex plays the game better than anyone.

Alex arrives at Dan’s office and begins questioning why she did what she did. She asks if they could hang out occasionally, but Dan tells her it wouldn’t work.

Beth and Dan sit down for lunch, and he struggles with how she reacts to him being in jail. She tells him that she did exactly what he told her to do because he wouldn’t allow them to see him in prison and told her to move on, and she did.

What does Dan tell Alex at her house?

After making her statement, Dan arrives at Alex’s house and goes off on her. He tells her it has to stop right now, but Alex says it won’t stop any time soon. However, she tries to spin it, but Dan grabs her and says he knows about the stunt she pulled at the hospital, and if she comes after his family again, he will end her career.
