Summary
More beautiful animation and familiar themes define “In the Stars”, a warm short about siblings, culture, and enduring spirit.
This recap of Star Wars: Visions Season 2 Episode 3, “In the Stars”, contains spoilers.
Star Wars, a story that has always been about tyranny, has often used the clash between nature and industrialization to emphasize its points.
It’s not a coincidence that Imperial occupation always results in the complete draining of a planet’s natural resources. Alien flora always gives way to grey, mechanized development, clanking shipyards, or sterile research facilities.
There’s a reason that people tend to associate the Empire’s giant walking battle tanks with stomping through forests, reducing trees to splinters.
Star Wars: Visions Season 2 Episode 3 Recap
“In the Stars”, through both its plot and visuals, is very much about this. Its protagonists, sisters named Tichina and Koten, are natives of a planet wrung dry by the Empire’s voraciousness. Clean water is scarce. The land is being terraformed into a mechanized nightmare.

The sisters’ mother died at the head of a resistance movement, crushed by the Empire like the natural resources. Her legacy lives on in the girls, though in different ways. They’re bitter about the mother’s death, understandably. Was her bravery naïve, not worth the sacrifice, or is resistance always preferable to subjugation?
Is Tichina Force-sensitive?
There is a neatly handled twist in this episode. Tichina believes she is possessed of her mother’s strength, and as the sisters take on the Imperials, we believe so too. Strength in Star Wars is, invariably, a connection to the Force.
But it isn’t Tichina with this connection – it’s Koten.
This revelation alters the sibling dynamic and plays as a nice surprise for the audience. The scale of the action is also enhanced by the stop-motion-style animation, impressive here, which is becoming a consistent theme of the anthology.
Star Wars: Visions Season 2 Episode 3 Ending Explained
Working together, Tichina and Koten are able to topple an AT-ST and redirect clean water back into the river.
But more important is the thematic resolution – all the stars in the sky winking with the pride of countless ancestors, the will of an entire people not yet diminished by the totalitarian heel of the Empire.
