Summary

A slight improvement on the previous installments, “Loose Threads of the Past,” actually delivers some moments of intrigue. Although the series is still painfully slow, it’s drip-feeding information to fill out its needlessly long episodes.

We recap the Hulu series Saint X Season 1 Episode 6, “Loose Threads of the Past,” which contains spoilers.

Hulu’s murder mystery series Saint X splits time between three distinct timelines. “Loose Threads of the Past” explores these intertwined subplots further.

In the present, Emily (Alycia Debnam-Carey) continues her mental breakdown, unraveling before her family. In the past, Alison (West Duchovny) seeks out excitement and culture. And in the other timeline, Alison’s family attempt to move on with their lives.

Saint X Season 1 Episode 6 Recap

The episode opens with a press conference from the island’s police. They have sacked the detective on Alison’s case for his mishandling of the investigation. The island apologizes to Alison’s parents but continues to stick to their story.

Parents Bill and Mia are back in New York after their traumatic holiday from hell. Mia spends her days crying, preparing for Alison’s funeral. Whilst Bill talks on the phone, desperate for his investigators to crack the case. Claire is left in the middle, emotionally abandoned and lost in all this grief.

Wherever the family goes, they are met with pity and Alison’s case. The parents fear Claire’s tics are getting worse, too. They want to shield her from this tragedy. They decide to move to the other side of the country, California, to start a new life.

Why does Claire change her name?

Bill wants to try teaching, and Mia suggests taking up gardening. They want Claire to try new things too. Getting into this spirit, Claire decides to change her name. She goes with her middle name Emily, marking this fresh start and a new beginning for the daughter.

In the present timeline, Emily continues to unravel. She’s lost her job and her friendship with Sunita. We pick up with her as she obsessively cleans her apartment. Emily apologizes to Sunita over the phone, but the friend is concerned. Emily needs professional help again.

Emily wants to know what was in Gogo’s letter, though. She stalks the man at his apartment and nearly breaks into his place. Her boyfriend Josh is concerned as well. He finds her at home during work hours. Emily is forced to confess she’s been sacked.

Josh still thinks she’s having an affair, though. He confronts her about the cab driver. Emily is adamant that she isn’t cheating on Josh. But he knows that she is hiding something. He threatens to end the relationship, fully aware that she’s been lying to him.

Emily promises to tell him everything tonight, although they have a meal planned with Emily’s parents first.

Meanwhile, Gogo’s room is ransacked by a flatmate. He thinks Gogo has stolen his money.

Just before their meal, Josh challenges Emily again. He’s spoken with Sunita; he knows about her shenanigans with Gogo. Josh can’t believe Emily would interact with her sister’s killer. Their argument is cut short, though, by Emily’s parent’s arrival.

What happens at the meal with Emily’s parents?

The meal goes well; the parents say they are proud of Emily. But she can’t keep her calm for too long. Emily admits that she has lost her job and has stopped seeing her therapist. She isn’t doing too well. Emily confesses she needs to know what happened to Alison, blaming her parents for giving up the investigation.

Emily’s parents defend themselves, stating that the investigation was driving them crazy. Emily thinks that their poor parenting has ruined her. She never had a chance to express herself or to grieve properly. Emily storms off before the parents can reply.

The parents are hurt by Emily’s comments and worried about their daughter. Emily tells Josh that she won’t stop investigating until she has solved this murder case. She needs to know the truth.

In the final timeline, before Alison’s death, the teenager continues to meet with Edwin. She asks him to show her some of the island’s culture; she wants to escape the resort for once. Desmond agrees to organize an excursion for Alison, but her family doesn’t want to go.

Saint X Season 1 Episode 6 Ending Explained

Olivia accidentally tells Tyler about Alison and Edwin. Tyler confronts Alison, angry that he has been played. He gets rather nasty, telling Alison that she isn’t special. Edwin sleeps with a new girl each week.

Upset, Alison cries in the toilets. She is comforted by Dana, who confirms that Alison is special. This cheers the teen up somewhat.

Dana’s husband, Ethan, continues to obsess over Alison. He steals her cardigan. Dana tells him to grow up, mentioning the many other sexual misdemeanors she has had to put up with. Elsewhere, Desmond confronts Sara about what he overheard, asking if Edwin has feelings for her.

Back in the present, Gogo looks over his letter. Gogo’s flatmate asks for his money back, which ends in a fight on the streets. Of course, Emily witnesses this altercation. Gogo beats the man in an alleyway. Here, Emily realizes that Gogo is capable of murder after all.
