Summary

In this exciting episode, an unexpected twist changes everything, making the series that much more thrilling and unpredictable.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 7, “Ray of Despair, Ray of Hope,” which contains spoilers.

What seemed to be a straightforward mission to gather supplies took an unexpected turn last week when Senku (Yusuke Kobayashi) and his friends learned the treasure island they are sailing to may be inhabited thanks to a crew member named Soyuz.

With that knowledge in mind, they’ve changed how they plan to approach the island, hoping to use the raging storm to help them sneak onto shore.

Whether or not the inhabitants of treasure island will be hostile or friendly remains to be seen, but either way, this trip should make for some exciting discoveries regarding the state of the world and maybe even lead the group to the Why-Man.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 7 Recap

The episode opens with Senku and his friends approaching the island with their ship. They can only speculate about how much technology the islanders have, but they assume it is less than they do. Although they find a hidden spot to dock before the storm passes, they are still careful about how they approach going on land.

The group decides to send a small recon squad consisting of Senku, Soyuz, Kohaku, and Gen to the island first to minimize the chance of inciting a war. Even though his hearing would be an asset to the recon squad, Ukyo stays behind to investigate the sea floor after noticing something on the sonar.

Who stowed away on the Perseus?

After the recon squad leaves, the remaining ship members discover that Suika stowed away on the Perseus in order to join the mission. Although Ryusuui insists on sending her home, Francois insists it is only because Suika is young and he is worried for her safety.

Ukyo and Ginro discover petrified bodies on the sea floor. This wouldn’t be alarming, except for the fact that the treasure island was uninhabited at the time of the petrification beam. This means these people were somehow petrified later and dropped into the sea.

What happened to everyone left on the Perseus during the recon mission?

When looking back at the ship with a telescope, Soyuz discovers that everyone left on the Perseus during the recon mission has somehow been petrified again.

The only one not petrified is Suika, who Ryusuui literally kicked off the ship just in time to be saved.

Who is Amaryllis?

Amaryllis is a young, beautiful, and somewhat manipulative woman who lives on the treasure island. Senku and the other recon squad members follow her, hoping to learn more about their surroundings and the treasure’s location.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 7 Ending Explained

As Amaryllis and the group talk, she slowly realizes that Senku is not there to take her to the “Master,” a man she is supposedly set to marry later. While they talk, the members of her village suddenly decide to riot against the Master, so Senku decides to calm them with the teargas he made and brought onto the island just in case.

After seeing what she calls sorcery and hearing that they want to save the petrified, Amaryllis reveals that she knows the source of the petrification beam and that her goal is to marry the Master so that she can infiltrate his palace and defeat him. She then asks for Senku’s help in her fight.

Not only was this the best episode of the season so far, but I’m also impressed by how Dr. Stone manages to surprise its viewers in the most unexpected ways. In a show that teeters on edge between what’s realistic and what’s just ridiculously farfetched, it’s amazing how they can keep the story grounded and easy to follow without it boring.

I expected the Treasure Island Arc to be straightforward, if not focused on the Why-Man, but all of these new people and twists have already added so many more possible layers and storylines.

I’m both excited and curious to see where these sudden new discoveries lead and how they all connect back to the source of the petrification.
