Summary

With this episode, the intrigue and suspense only heighten as viewers watch Senku and his friends find themselves in an almost impossible situation.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 8, “The Trump Card Aboard the Science Vessel,” which contains spoilers.

Despite anticipating life on the treasure island, Senku (Yusuke Kobayashi) and his friends were still thrown for a loop last week when everyone aboard the Perseus was suddenly petrified all over again.

With no idea how that happened, their only clues come from a young woman named Amaryllis, who is set to marry the island leader and supposed culprit. With no real choice but to agree to help her, Senku and his friends may have just landed themselves in even more trouble than they anticipated.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

The episode opens with a flashback to five years earlier. Amaryllis and several of her friends attempt to escape by boat, only to be chased by the Master’s right-hand warriors, Moz and Kirisame. Using some unknown petrification weapon, they can turn everyone on the boat by Amaryllis to stone.

Amaryllis survived the petrification beam by being the farthest back in the boat. From their angle, Moz and Kirisame assumed everyone had been petrified, but the light had only just started to reach Amaryllis. By pulling out the part of her hair that had been turned to stone, she was able to stop herself from being fully affected and jumped into the ocean.

What are the rules of the petrification beam?

After hearing Amaryllis’ story, Senku deduces that the petrification rule must follow a particular set of rules. The rules of the petrification beam discovered so far include a limited area of effect, activation by being thrown, and the ability to stop the chain reaction by cutting it off.

Who is Ibara?

Ibara is the minister of the island and basically the second in command.

Ginro survived the petrification beam by being in the ocean when it hit. Thanks to Ukyo hitting the petrification weapon with his arrow and throwing off its trajectory, Ginro was just outside the range of the attack.

Although things felt like they were moving a little slow at the beginning of the season, they’ve picked up lately. Each episode builds upon the suspense from the last, and I find myself on the edge of my seat every week. Half the fun of this series is never really knowing what crazy solution the characters will devise next. It’ll be exciting to see how they manage to get out of this situation, significantly when Senku’s group is so outnumbered.
