Summary
A good episode made better with an exciting ending.
We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Doctor Cha Season 1 Episode 13, which contains spoilers.
For the most part, episode 13 of Doctor Cha was a pretty standard. However, the genuinely shocking ending leaves plenty of excitement for tomorrow’s installment. It gives reason for Deok-rye (Kim Mi-kyung) to now be involved in Jeong-suk’s (Uhm Jung-hwa) separation from In-ho (Kim Byung-chul).
Doctor Cha Season 1 Episode 13 Recap
After dramatizing his apparent fainting, In-ho begs Jeong-suk to reconsider their impending separation. But it has no effect, for the resident tells her husband her mind is already made up, and this is simply a “divorce notice.”
Spilling into the room, the eavesdropping rest of the family are all deflated by the news, with a frustrated Ae-sim taking it the hardest until she later gets wind of Seung-hi’s hefty inheritance.
What was the aftermath with Ji-seon’s family?
Following a scene showing Jeong-suk comforting her children and notifying them of what decisions need to be made (living arrangements, etc.) once the divorce is complete, we move to the next day. Here, In-ho tries to woo his wife with breakfast before learning Roy Kim successfully persuaded Ji-seon’s family not to sue the hospital for malpractice.
Next, Roy Kim explains to Jeong-suk that Ji-seon’s mother is sorry for blaming Jung-min for the death of her ill daughter and that she just wanted to hold someone accountable in grief.
In a cutaway, though, Jung-min apologizes to the family at the late cancer patient’s funeral, accepting his share of the blame.
On an already difficult day for the professor, In-ho is called out to talk with Seung-hi. Yet their conversation goes surprisingly well, with the incident over which department was to blame for Ji-seon’s hasty discharge quickly written off as a fair attempt to protect Jung-min.
Still, there is one negative, as Seung-hi makes sure it’s known she’ll “wait” for In-ho, despite his wishes to make marital amends with Jeong-suk.
What happens with Deok-rye’s hospital admission?
As Roy Kim submits his DNA in a bid to find his biological parents, Jung-min finds himself frustrated words like “relief” are being used regarding Ji-seon’s family not suing (but gets properly comforted by So-ra), and Jeong-suk skilfully deals with a wide range of patients.
Elsewhere, Deok-rye asks if she can start getting health insurance under her daughter’s name now, she’s quit her job as a care worker.
Brushing aside questions on what’s wrong in her life, Jeong-suk insists Deok-rye attends a hospital appointment at Gusan the following day because she has now seemingly tried everything for her injured shoulder to no avail.
In the midst of all this, In-ho sees an opportunity, only to find himself quickly warned a divorce isn’t going to be canceled purely due to sudden kind gestures.
Officially tired of the gifts she’s receiving, which include a contract regarding joint ownership of their house, Jeong-suk confronts In-ho.
“It’s already too late,” she tells her husband before quickly exiting his office.
Meanwhile, Ae-sim continues to be blinded by the idea of gaining money from her son, ending up with Seung-hi, so attempts to exchange pleasantries with the Family Medicine professor.
What is the reaction to Seung-hi being in charge of Deok-rye?
When discovering Seung-hi is in charge of Deok-rye, Jeong-suk looks dumbstruck and subsequently tries to get her mother to switch doctors. To do so, the resident must come somewhat clean about the professor’s college romance with In-ho, though their current affair and lovechild are skimmed over. Unfortunately, all this does is make Deok-rye laugh.
Challenging Seung-hi directly, Jeong-suk asks for Deok-rye’s doctor to be changed, believing her foe intends to expose her relationship with In-ho to the elderly patient. “I’m going my own way,” is the Family Medicine professor’s stubborn response.
Hoping to seize an opportunity, a jealous In-ho interrupts Roy Kim to invite Deok-rye to a family dinner. There, he pretends to be a respectable son-in-law, apologizing for his shortcomings and vowing to live well with Jeong-suk.
The professor even goes as far as to “shower” the elder with money, an odd act that goes down surprisingly well.
