The hunt for Sam O’Dwyer ramps up with Detective Redcliffe on Deadloch. However, a dead body arrives, throwing the entire case for a loop and leading to everyone realizing that they have a real serial killer on their hands.

Deadloch Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

As Cath is in the middle of a photo shoot, someone is off in the woods pleasuring themselves, and we see her stumble across a dead body. We see James and Dulcie investigating the body which has suffered from saponification. Eddie Redcliffe arrives at the crime scene to say she was chasing Sam O’Dwyer down last night, but Dulcie said it was impossible because the dead body had O’Dwyer’s jacket on. However, Redcliffe doesn’t believe it.

Who was the dead body?

The forensic evidence team pulled a fingerprint off the dead body and matched Sam O’Dwyers. Of course, Detective Redcliffe freaks out, while Dulcie says that every one of their suspects has turned up dead. They need to go back to the drawing board.

There is a leak in the department, and Redcliffe thinks it is Cath, leading to Dulcie telling her she can’t show up randomly at the police station until this case is solved.

Who has Detective Redcliffe set her sights on as her next suspect?

As we’ve begun to learn in our time with Detective Redcliffe, she moves from one suspect to another rather fast. Her first suspect was Gavin Latham, then Sam O’Dwyer, and with both dead, Phil McGangus is now her number one suspect.

Detective Redcliffe heads to Phil McGangus’s place to find some DNA to test against the blood found on the boat. She grabs a whiskey glass from his place and pushes James for answers.

What shocking evidence does James reveal during the autopsy?

Dulcie arrives wanting answers about whether or not Sam O’Dwyer’s tongue was cut like the rest of the victims. He does confirm that, but he also mentions that the tongues are being cut hours before they are strangled to death.

While Detective Redcliffe decides to get DNA swabs from every single man in Deadloch, Dulcie receives a name of a profiler from an old friend to help them with the case. Dulcie approaches Dr. Daniela Kehlmann to join the case, and Detective Redcliffe arrives, upset that she is getting someone else involved. Even after telling her what is happening and the potential of a serial killer, Dr. Kehlmann informs Dulcie she doesn’t want to take part.

Detective Redcliffe passes out at the bar, and the bartender calls Dulcie to let her know. However, when she arrives at the bar, she tells Dulcie that she has left with Phil McGangus. She heads to the shore and finds them at McGangus’s boat. He gets out of dodge with blood on his head, calling Redcliffe crazy.

Deadloch Season 1 Episode 3 Ending Explained

What does Detective Redcliffe reveal to Dulcie?

On the boat, Dulcie pushes Redcliffe for why she is trying to solve the case so badly. She reveals that she wants to solve this case because she got her partner killed back home and was hoping if she did, they wouldn’t look at her as a f**k up anymore.

Dulcie attempts to comfort her but tells Detective Redcliffe she needs a partner because this serial killer has been living under their nose for a long time and needs an outside perspective. While they are talking, Abby arrives to say that none of the men tested matched the DNA on the boat. The episode ends with the big reveal that Trent, Gavin, and Rod had Pantoprazole in their system and say, “Men don’t poison, we are looking for a woman.”
