Paxton is off to Arizona State until he realizes he is a small fish in a big pond. As a result, he quits college and heads back to Sherman Oaks High School to become a swim instructor.
At the time, Devi and Ethan are in the middle of dating, but the two’s history results in them reaching out to each other for advice.
After breaking up with Ethan, Devi shifts her focus back to Princeton. She starts trying to ramp up her resume leading to her becoming the equipment manager for the swim team.
As Paxton and Devi spend more time together, they realize there might be some unfinished business between them. One day, the pair get stuck inside the supply closet together and start to have a heart-to-heart talk about life. It leads to them kissing, but after getting busted by the coach, they realize they would be better off as friends.

Season 3 left off with Devi arriving at Ben’s house with the “one free boink” coupon and them kissing. Season 4 picks up with the two in bed together in an awkward post-sex state.
After Ben mentions needing to hit the hay, Devi leaves. After Ben texts Devi that he is super busy and to have a great summer, Devi and he go their separate ways.

After quite an uncomfortable senior year between Devi and Ben, with Devi dating Ethan and Ben dating Margot, they realize there is still much love between them. However, when school ends, Ben heads to New York for an internship, and Devi prepares to head to Princeton. So it looked like the relationship would never happen.
In the series finale of Never Have I Ever, Devi is in the middle of Patti’s wedding, and Ben is in New York, realizing he is still in love with Devi. He flies back to Sherman Oaks and arrives at the wedding.
Ben confesses his love to Devi, who returns the sentiment, and the two decide that their colleges aren’t too far apart and could try to make it work. The series ended with the two of them at his dorm, snuggling in the bed and watching a movie together. The Season 4 finale heavily suggests that Ben and Devi stayed together in the end.
