Julia Stiles and Jordan Gaveris hit a high note as the season finale of The Lake finishes strong.

This recap of the Prime Video series The Lake Season 2 Episode 8, “Death on Denial,” contains spoilers, including an open discussion of the ending of The Lake Season 2.

We have Justin on the hunt to reveal who the boathouse arsonist is in the finale of The Lake Season 2. As that is happening, Maisy-May tries to deal with the fact that her mother is really dying.

The Lake Season 2 Episode 8 Recap

Justin has figured out who the person that burnt the boathouse down is and has brought everyone on a cruise to devise a plan to reveal who it is. He and Billie reveal the new place where they plan to build the new boathouse and also say that the boathouse arsonist is on that boat right now.

From Maisy-May to Anna Del-threes to Wayne, Justin and Billie dissect each person on the boat and their motives of why they could be the arsonist. Of course, each one of them is defensive, pointing the finger at somebody else.

Who burned down the boathouse and why?

Justin asks Whoreen if she burnt down the boathouse, and she says she did. Whoreen goes into detail about why she did it. She was upset that the Canasta tournament was bumped for Justin’s wedding and years of supporting everyone on the board. Furthermore, watching everyone come together for Justin and Riley’s wedding upset her because nobody showed up to her wedding. She knew as long as the boathouse was around, she would only be known as a horny homewrecker to everyone.

Maisy-May hunts for her husband, only to realize that he is getting a tattoo from a hippie, and she freaks out. However, Victor said he needed to get work done to celebrate his hard work for the year.

Do Billie and Forrest break up?

After teetertottering with the idea of being with Forrest, Billie realizes that maybe she needs to take this next step on her journey alone. At the Bush Prom, she tells Forrest they are better off as friends.

Forrest and the crew are throwing a Bush Prom, where guys wear dresses and ladies wear tuxes. After breaking it off with Forrest, Billie heads to find Ivy to apologize for hurting her feelings. The two share a moment leading them to the dance floor together.

Do Justin and Riley get back together?

At the dance, Riley approaches Justin to talk about life. Riley reveals that he isn’t going to Brussels and asks Justin if he is still in love with him, and he says absolutely. Riley asks if they can try again, and he says he’d like that.

The board votes not to press charges against Whoreen for burning down the boathouse. After this, Maisy-May gets on the stage to cheers to the new boathouse, and when she gets off the stage, her mother gives her the keys to the cottage as promised.

After giving her the keys, Mimsy tells Maisy-May she took out $950 thousand of equity on the house because she didn’t get the boathouse payment. While Maisy-May wins the battle, Mimsy takes claim to winning the war.

The Lake Season 2 Ending Explained

Mimsy’s dying wish is for Maisy-May to split the cottage with Justin. So, Maisy heads to talk to him about it, and he asks if she can handle a 50/50 split, but says 60/40, and they shake on it. As Justin reveals the big news to Riley, Riley whispers in his ear, “Let’s have a baby,” and the credits roll.
