Each instalment of Silo seems to unveil further revelations about this sinister underworld, with the previous episode revealing even more dark secrets. “Hanna” continues this trend, uncovering additional mysteries inside this dystopian society as Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) runs from Sims and Judicial.
Silo Season 1 Episode 8 Recap
Beginning with a flashback sequence, a youthful Juliette ventures into the Silo’s crops at night with mother Hanna. She’s there to make a dodgy deal with a farmer. He hands her a metal box containing a live rabbit.
Hanna uses her illegal magnifying device to operate on this ill rabbit. She hopes this new device will eventually go on to help lots of citizens of the Silo.
Back in the present, Juliette hides from Sims and his foot soldiers. Sims questions Gloria about the items found in her vent. Gloria discloses information on Holston’s bag and the hard drive. For her troubles, Gloria is dosed up once again.
Why is Juliette’s office raided?
Juliette tries to access the contents of the hard drive whilst hiding from Sims but is unable to bypass the security codes. Paul contacts her about their offices being raided, and Juliette returns to her place of work. Sims’ associates trash the offices, searching for more illegal relics.
This triggers a flashback of Juliette’s home being raided. They are after Hanna’s magnifying device. Pete swears that he didn’t sell Hanna out, but she doesn’t trust him anymore. Hanna hands over the device, which is destroyed right before her.
Juliette hides the rabbit from Judicial, later releasing it into the crops.
Juliette’s bag is searched at the office, although they don’t find the hard drive inside. Juliette explains to Paul in secret her theory on the developing circumstances.
She thinks Sims is calling the shots, not Judge Meadows. He wants Juliette dead or imprisoned because of what she knows.
What is hidden in Sims’ office?
Paul uses his knowledge of the law to prove Sims’ illegal actions with the raid. Juliette arrests Sims for breaking these laws. Sims is cuffed and taken away. Then Juliette snoops around his office, finding hidden files on Shirley, Martha, and her mother, Hanna Nichols. There’s even a photograph of her mother inside the file.
With nowhere else to turn, Juliette visits her father, Pete. She wants the truth about her mother’s death and the magnifying device.
Pete explains that his son’s death forever changed the family. Pete distanced himself from Hanna whilst the mother sought out her own answers. The destruction of her device broke Hanna’s spirit once and for all.
Pete is adamant that he didn’t betray his wife, though. Juliette believes him, mentioning the hidden cameras. Judicial was spying on them all along.
The father and daughter embrace. Pete is informed that Maintenance is in the facility. Juliette thinks they are here to install more cameras.
Why is Martha paranoid?
She decides to contact Martha and head down to the lower levels for help. Juliette swipes the hard drive and leaves. Martha receives the message and quickly grows paranoid, even contemplating leaving her home for the first time in decades when Juliette doesn’t arrive. Shirley finds Martha out on the doorstep, and together they worry about Juliette’s whereabouts.
Before leaving the upper levels, Juliette meets with Lukas. She needs help gaining access to the hard drive. Juliette explains the conspiracy at play in the Silo.
It’s a lot for Lukas to take in, but he struggles to comprehend the truth. Juliette smashes her mirror, showing him the hidden cameras.
Juliette knows that Judicial will now be on to her. She asks for Lukas’ help again, but he won’t get involved. Juliette runs away before the soldiers arrive. Whilst escaping, Juliette finds a newly constructed checkpoint. They want to search her bag.
Who’s side is Bernard on?
Bernard arrives just in time to stop this disagreement from turning into a scene. He takes Juliette to the farmer’s crops for some privacy. He asks her what is going on. Juliette talks about Judicial’s plans to take over the Silo, believing that Sims is in charge. Sims finds the hard drive, and Juliette is taken to the prison cells. Paul leads her up the winding staircase. Juliette tells Paul that she is being setup, but he won’t listen. He has another bout of tremors and Juliette escapes, pushing Paul away. She grabs her bag and then jumps over the edge of the stairwell dramatically.
