Summary

A more balanced installment brings with it more consistent fun.

We recap the 2023 Netflix K-Drama series King the Land Season 1 Episode 3, which contains spoilers.

In episode three of King the Land, the show has seemingly found its formula. The comedy had a better strike rate, the story was taken in an entertaining direction, and the audience was far better acquainted with its two leads.

Leaning into the glossy, high-budget locations clearly works, too, so hopefully, more of that will be emphasized in the coming weeks too.

King the Land Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

What happens after Gu Won’s interview?

Unable to recompose after being asked questions about his mother, Gu Won struggles through the live broadcast prepared for him by storming off and then watching the sunset in silence. Sa-rang, however, fills in the gaps competently, drawing praise from her King Hotel colleagues who are watching the awkward stream.

Next, Gu Won’s professional relationship with Sa-rang becomes noticeably tenser, with the pair clashing over their flop of an interview. However, King Hotel still winds up trending because of the duo’s impromptu scenic sunset shot, so there’s one positive.

As Pyeong-hwa grows closer to Ro-un at work, Gu Won fails to put his best foot forward in the Jeju Island photoshoot for King Hotel. Unlike Sa-rang, the Head Manager refuses to smile, is generally unreceptive to requests, and sticks a pin in proceedings whenever he pleases.

How do Gu Won and Sa-rang spend a night together?

While Da-eul begins to get her fellow workers on the side in her new management role, Gu Won and Sa-rang are left to spend the night together in a remotely located cottage as a result of the poor weather that emerged following their boat photoshoot. This isn’t exactly a pleasant trip for King Hotel’s Head Manager, given he spends the beginning of his night afraid of the locals, the dark, and seemingly anything else he encounters.

Despite most of their time together in Gapado being dedicated to competitive drinking and petty arguing, Gu Won and Sa-rang appear closer to understanding each other once their unexpected trip is finished with.

The latter now knows her Head Manager dislikes smiling because people use it as a “mask” by people, ” and the pair genuinely enjoy their bike trip and lower the extortionate hotel fee together. So much so that on their way back to the mainland, amends are properly made between the two.

How is Gu Won treated when he returns home?

Arguing with his father over his poor interview etiquette, Gu Won admits he believes the only thing that matters is the “great publicity” which arrived from the event and states he “just wants to know the truth” when the conversation turns towards his mother. Keeping this in mind, Il-hun notes “love” isn’t real for rich people like them, only “duty.”

After Gu Won clashes with his sister over her “childish” provocation, we move to the next day. Here, Sa-rang is instructed to begin working at King the Land going forward, thanks to her high level of ability.

King the Land Season 1 Episode 3 Ending Explained

As an online test informs Gu Won he has a “crush” on Sa-rang and encourages him to confess, he prepares to gift her some macarons.

Yet a wrench is swiftly thrown into proceedings, and the episode ends with the Head Manager of King Hotel walking away from watching his love interest be embraced by her partner.
