We recap the 2023 Prime Video series The Horror of Dolores Roach Season 1 (Episodes 1-8), which contains spoilers as it details what happened.
Horror comedy series The Horror of Dolores Roach tells the fascinating story of a killer masseuse. This accidental serial killer is released from prison and straight away finds herself back, living a life of crime, one that she’s tried so desperately to avoid.
To hide these mounting dead bodies, Dolores’ friend Luis decides to cook the corpses, placing them inside his brand new empanadas recipe at his fast-food restaurant. It’s a fiendish, twisted plot that leads to much drama and hilarity.

Recap – what happened in The Horror of Dolores Roach Season 1? (Episodes 1-8)
Episode 1 – “They Called Me Magic Hands”
Dolores’ serial killer life is made into a successful Broadway play. The killer confronts the leading actress Flora to tell her side of the story. In flashbacks, we meet Dolores as she is released from prison after 16 years on the inside. She returns to her old neighborhood, but everything has changed.
With nowhere to go, Dolores visits the only place she recognizes, Empanada Loca, for a snack; there, she finds her old buddy Luis. He offers her a room rent-free in the basement below the restaurant. Dolores now has a place to stay.
Episode 2 – “This Building’s Gonna Be the Death of Me”
Dolores needs work, so she interviews for a masseuse position at the local salon. She gets the job, but a customer sells her out as an ex-convict, costing her the role. This customer is Marcie, a drug dealer who wants Dolores to come to work for her instead. Dolores turns Marcie down, though.
Dolores opens her own massage business in Luis’ basement. It starts successfully. Luis has rent issues, though and argues with his landlord, Gideon Pearlman. Dolores tries to calm Gideon with a massage. He starts to get creepy, and Dolores attacks him.
Episode 3 – “Like a Stoned-Ass Baby”
Unable to pay the back rent and traumatized by the landlord’s advances, Dolores strangles Gideon to death in the basement. She goes to the hardware store to buy supplies to dispose of the body. When she returns, the corpse has disappeared.
Luis has decided to cut up the body and cook the meat. He places this horrifying meat inside his empanadas and sells them to the general public. Dolores is horrified by this discovery. Luis thinks it’s the perfect cover-up, though. The episode ends with Gideon’s son Jonah looking for his father.
Episode 4 – “Bitch, I’ve Already Been to Prison”
Jonah doesn’t suspect anything and asks Luis about the missing payments and the potential buyout of the business. Luis lies and throws Jonah off the scent. Dolores is disturbed by Luis’ actions and applies for university, hoping to put her life back on track with her education.
Marcie asks for a massage, but really, she suspects Dolores of starting a new drug dealing business. She confronts Dolores, and the two rivals fight. This ends with Dolores snapping Marcie’s neck. With two people dead, Dolores heads to prison to ask her old cellmate Tabitha for help.
Episode 5 – “I Never Don’t Find ‘Em”
Dolores wants to find her ex-boyfriend Dominic and asks for help. Cellmate Tabitha puts her in touch with a private investigator called Ruthie. She confirms that Dominic is dead. Jonah is looking into his own father’s disappearance and soon requires Ruthie’s assistance. This terrifies Dolores, who fears she’ll be found out.
Luis sends a message to Jonah from Gideon’s phone. This causes Jonah to call off the search party immediately. Luis celebrates in the basement. He says how he will protect Dolores no matter what.
Episode 6 – “Blink Twice”
Dolores gives drug dealer Hector a massage. Hector informs Dolores that his boss Marcie has gone missing. Dolores accidentally poisons Hector, who is allergic to coconut oil. She tries to save his life but stabs the EpiPen into his chest.
Then Ruthie shows up. She’s tracked Gideon down to the basement. Dolores attacks Ruthie, attempting to kill her too. Eventually, she manages to strangle Ruthie to death while the health inspector talks with Luis upstairs. Dolores tells Luis that they need to sell the place and run.
Episode 7 – “Bye, Felicia”
Luis obtains fake IDs for himself and Dolores. They take Jonah’s $15k deposit but still need more money if they want to start a new life together. Jonah promises to buy them out with Gideon’s rent money; they need to wait a few days.
The plumbing breaks in the building due to all the clogged-up blood. Luis starts to repair the plumbing. He moves all the dead bodies into the kitchen’s freezer while he fixes the air conditioning. Jonah makes breakfast in the kitchen and finds his father’s corpse in the freezer. Dolores kills him immediately.
Episode 8 – “Stop Me”
Dolores wants to run; she can’t wait any longer. Plus, the police are now onto them as well. Dolores argues with Joy in the basement and kills her. Luis decides to hide the bodies in Sophia’s apartment. Nellie is arrested for this. Then Luis fights and kills Jeremiah.
In the end, Dolores tries to run, but Luis won’t let her. She burns his face in the fryer, which starts a fire in the kitchen. Luis collapses and dies, burning in the fire. Dolores escapes in Jeremiah’s truck. She spends the next four years searching for Dominic while a fugitive.
Dolores finds a new lead in the present and attacks this unknown individual at their home.
