Summary

A strong installment continues the series’ consistency.

This recap of the Netflix K-Drama series King the Land season 1, episode 8 contains spoilers.

Fortunately, King the Land has remained consistently good throughout the first half of its airing. And, now that Gu Won and Sa-rang seem to have properly kickstarted their relationship, there are promising signs that such congruence will remain until the series ends. At the very least, the show is well worth tuning into every week and provides plenty of entertainment.

King the Land Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

As Gu Won is being taunted over his romantic jealousy, Samir takes revenge on his frenemy for the wedding simulation fiasco by having the rich heir taken away from his personal space. Then, the Prince walks alone with Sa-rang, vowing to party in celebration of how touched he was by her sincere words on what it’s like to provide happiness to people.

Later, Gu Won enjoys a late-night outing with Sa-rang, with the two letting off steam from their hectic day by eating cup noodles and side dishes beside the Han River. Concurrently, Da-eul continues to live unglamorously at home, taking on all the domestic responsibilities thanks to her lazy husband.

What happens when Samir proposes?

After Gu Won ensures she has a suitable night’s rest in his suite, Sa-rang is made to don an “elegant” dress for Samir’s party, while King Hotel’s Head Manager becomes the waiter for the day. However, the initially lighthearted occasion takes a bit of a turn when the Prince surprisingly proposes to the concierge.

Fortunately, Sa-rang turns Samir down respectfully, meaning the two (and then Gu Won too) can savor a lavish night together of fine dining free from tension. The next day, the Prince checks out of King Hotel, joyfully expressing his gratitude to the people who made his stay so memorable.

Why does Gu Won decide to confess to Sa-rang?

As the injured Pyeong-hwa (she fell during a flight, only to be aided by Ro-un) begins selling duty-free items outside of flights in the hopes of it earning her a promotion, Gu Won gets permission from his father to take charge of planning King Hotel’s 100 year anniversary event. This naturally annoys Hwa-ran, who believes her younger brother is attempting to “fight,” though she laughs at the Head Manager’s suggestion he is in this to “protect” employees.

Following a nightmarish thought of losing Sa-rang to Prince Samir, Gu Won immediately goes to find his love interest. Yet his ambitions of a private confession are stunted by the fact he’s made to travel to a sauna to see the concierge, who is there alongside her friends.

In time, Gu Won is recruited into Pyeong-hwa’s duty-free selling routine, only for Sa-rang to stick a pin in it all when she discovers the practice is illegal. Still, the flight attendant does receive plenty of encouragement that more positive days are on the horizon for her, and that those close to her know of her qualities even if management doesn’t.

With the support of Pyeong-hwa and Da-eul, Gu Won sets a date with Sa-rang so they can discuss their relationship. The Head Manager goes all out here too, cooking a luxurious meal from scratch for his crush ahead of the confession he plans to make.

King the Land Season 1 Episode 8 Ending Explained

Unfortunately, though, Gu Won doesn’t get to make his confession, as his attempts to charismatically cook food backfire in the form of the rich heir activating the sprinklers, and scaring his date. Nevertheless, the duo swiftly gets swept up in the heat of the moment, and the episode ends with Sa-rang and Gu Won passionately kissing.
