Summary

Normand storms the stage in Soup to Nuts and makes you laugh for an hour straight with a top-tier solo debut on Netflix.

Mark Normand has been in the stand-up comedy scene for over a decade. From Comedy Central‘s Comics to Watch to Esquire‘s Best New Comedians 2012, Normand has been on top of his game. Normand appeared on Netflix in the The Standups series, highlighting comedians doing half-hour specials in LA. However, Soup to Nuts is his first full-hour special on the streaming giant.

Mark Normand: Soup to Nuts Review

Mark Normand: Soup To Nuts is a stand-up special from Normand, who tackles topics from awkward lap dances to farting in front of your spouse and extremely dark humor.

The special begins uniquely with Normand doing some crowd work with them shouting out names and saying something funny, followed by him “running late” to his own special and running to the venue. The MC calls him to the stage saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, Kevin Hart.” Honestly, one of the better openings of the year.

Normand has one of the more unique deliveries in the world of stand-up. From the moment he hits the stage, he delivers jokes in this fast-talking mile-a-minute fashion that keeps you on your toes throughout the special. That said, I did find myself rewinding the special a few times to hear a joke or two, but it didn’t make them less funny.

It’s a no-holds-barred hour filled with jokes about everything and anything. Normand doesn’t hold back on the topics that some comedians are afraid to tackle like gender, the double standards of men/women compliments, and even tackles everyone’s issue with Barbie dolls. Again, very refreshing to hear these types of jokes that aren’t preachy but just funny.

Is Mark Normand: Soup to Nuts worth watching?

Mark Normand Soup To Nuts is a brilliantly written, engaging special filled with non-stop laughs from start to finish.

The special continues the trend of shining the light on comedians getting on the stage without any hesitations with their material. Normand’s job was to get on the stage and ensure the paying audience and audiences at home laughed, and I did just that.

The recommendation is really easy. While this type of comedy might not be for everyone (turn it off if you don’t like it), the people that love to laugh at things that aren’t deemed “funny” anymore will have a great time.

Normand hits the stage with his foot on the gas and never lets up leading to a top-tier comedy special. Another thing I hope this does is to have more people check out the hilarious podcast between Joe List and Mark Normand called Tuesdays w/ Stories.
