Summary

“Homecoming” includes many more cheesy moments, and the central romance of Jace and Crystal is still corny as hell. But there are plenty of positives in the penultimate episode. The CJ storyline features some truly emotional scenes, while the show effectively addresses the difficulties of upholding a legacy and coming out.

We recap the Apple TV+ series Swagger Season 2 Episode 7, “Homecoming,” which contains significant spoilers.

As the second season of Swagger nears its finale, the writers introduce a handful of new dilemmas for the team after the Coach Warrick (Al Mitchell) case was swiftly resolved.

In “Homecoming,” Jace (Isaiah R. Hill) struggles with recruitment opportunities, while the staff and players are placed under intense pressure to perform well in the National championship playoffs.

Swagger Season 2 Episode 7 Recap

The penultimate episode concentrates on a few of the lesser-known players, mainly Nick and CJ. Nick is celebrating his 18th birthday party as the episode begins.

He dances with his mother and celebrates his big day with his fellow players and the coaching staff.

Jenna introduces Jace to her new boyfriend before Nick’s own mother makes her big birthday party speech. She talks about when Hurricane Maria struck their home back in Puerto Rico in 2017.

After the destruction, they had to rebuild their home and their dreams. They have sacrificed a great deal for Nick’s future in the six years since, but it is all now starting to pay off.

Do Jace and Crystal make their relationship official?

During the party, Jace and Crystal discuss their renewed romance. Jace doesn’t want anyone to know about their relationship at first but then later agrees to make it official. Jace and Crystal kiss one another in public, which ends with a round of applause, of course.

Jace isn’t the only team player getting lucky that night. CJ also finds himself walking off with a new female friend. Meanwhile, CJ’s father, Camden, informs Ike that his father is ill. Camden and CJ will be taking a road trip to visit the man before he passes away.

Camden and CJ embark on their road trip to visit CJ’s grandfather the next day. Camden mentions that his father was forever changed by the Vietnam War.

Over time, they distanced themselves from one another and have been practically estranged ever since.

At the grandfather’s house, the family gathers to pay their final respects to the war veteran. CJ and Camden sit at the grandfather’s bedside.

Camden is rather emotional as he apologizes for distancing himself from his own father. He then thanks his dad for motivating him with his career. He owes his entire career and wealth to his father.

What is CJ’s secret?

Later that day, CJ’s grandfather passes away peacefully in his sleep, with his family surrounding him. Camden thanks his son for being there to support him. CJ makes his own confession on the drive home. CJ comes out to his dad, telling him that he is gay.

At first, Camden doesn’t believe his son. He’s in shock and denial. But eventually, he accepts CJ’s announcement. Camden says that he is proud of his son and that he loves him. They decide to make the same announcement to the team at the next game.

Elsewhere, Emory is told by Chairwoman Diane that the team needs to improve. Since the controversy with Jace and the Cedar Cove 4, fundraising has been down.

Emory is tasked with winning the National Championships; interestingly, his neck is on the line now.

Ike is also under a lot of pressure. His own coaching staff are still upset that he lied to them. Musa’s father, Naim, won’t accept Ike’s apology either; he’s still angry that Ike concentrates so much of his energy solely on Jace when there are other players who also need his help.

Emory asks Ike how he can help support the team. Ike lays out his requests. He needs Emory to help with Jace and Nick’s recruitment opportunities. Jace currently has no offers, and Nick wants to join the Puerto Rico National team.

The pressure is firmly on Jace as well. He practices with his girlfriend Crystal. The controversy surrounding him and the fact that his recruitment options have all but run dry lead to Jace losing confidence in himself.

This is evident in the next game, where Jace misses many shots.

Swagger Season 2 Episode 7 Ending Explained

Before this all-important playoff game, though, CJ makes his brave announcement to the team. The players are all supportive of CJ’s news and hug their fellow players.

The episode ends with the crucial playoff game. Cedar Cove is victorious, although the scouts are not impressed with Jace’s performance. He sits in the locker room alone afterward, contemplating his options and mental state. Thankfully, Nick’s performance is better received; he’s still in the running for the National team.

The staff and players celebrate their victory together. Then, Naim and Ike get a chance to talk alone. Ike thanks Naim for the motivational speech, but Naim has had enough. He quits the team abruptly, with no explanation. Naim walks away from Ike after dropping this bombshell.
