Where was the Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah filmed– a breakdown of filming locations

Where did they film You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah? We discuss the 2023 Netflix movie and the filming locations used.

It’s a funny thing about Adam Sandler. If I told you that there hasn’t been a year gone by since 1998 that Adam Sandler hasn’t been in a film, except 2021, and I’m blaming COVID-19 for that, would you believe me?

It seems that he is one of the most consistent actors in Hollywood, working constantly and doing all kinds of projects that many of you out there are just not aware of.

Looking through his releases, a couple more recent things pop out, like Uncut Gems and The Out-Laws, but there’s a lot more I’ve never even heard of, never mind sitting down to watch.

Whatever the case, Adam has a 2023 release on Netflix that he stars in and is also a producer.

The film is a 2023 American comedy-drama directed by Sammi Cohen, written by Alison Peck, and produced by Sandler. Based on the 2005 young adult novel of the same name, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah tells the story of two best friends whose bat mitzvah is thrown off kilter when they both have the hots for a popular guy.

The situation starts to take its toll on the two friends, causing a rift between them.

Naturally, we have a full review for the film right here on Ready Steady Cut, but this article works in partnership with those other pieces, providing some details on the production and answering the question: where did they film You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah?

Where did they film the Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah – a breakdown of filming locations

Ontario, Canada

It seems that most of the coming-of-age comedy was filmed entirely in Ontario. Most of the filming occurred in the Greater Toronto Area, and areas such as Halton, Peel, Durham, and York were also utilized.

Some posts on Instagram also gave us a few clues to find some particular locales.

Beth Tzedec Congregation, 1700 Bathurst Street, York

Extensive filming took place at a Conservative Synagogue in York.

In an article in The Times of Israel, Rabbi Steve Wernick, Beth Tzedec’s senior Rabbi, explains how the six-week shoot worked, saying, “They filmed in our chapel, in the gym for one of the bat mitzvah party scenes, in the religious school gift shop, the rabbi’s office.”

The community praised the cast and crew for the respect and goodwill they showed while on the shoot.

The Beehive Hair Studio, 175 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville

Another authentic location used in filming the movie was a hairdressing boutique in Oakville.

A day of location work was done at The Beehive Hair Studio, where the crew were welcomed by the staff and owner.

An Instagram post would show a few nice pictures from the day of shooting, thank the cast and crew, and also mention that they managed to get Adam to write a message on the bathroom door of the hair studio, encouraging people to pop in and see it.

It seems that Adam is a really nice guy, according to the people he met on this shoot, which may be why he is never out of work.
