We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Destined with You Season 1 Episode 3, which contains significant spoilers.

Set to a pleasant pace and layered with plenty of detail, episode three of Destined with You was definitely entertaining. The reveal at the end looks like it’ll be the central theme of the next episode and will perhaps shed light on whether Sin-yu (Rowoon) genuinely is falling for Hong-jo (Jo Bo-ah).

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

What does Hong-jo do with the love spell?

Following his car accident, Sin-yu meets with Na-yeon. But it’s not a particularly happy encounter, as the lawyer decides to break it off with his partner, at least temporarily, as there’s something he “needs to figure out” alone.

The next day, Hong-jo places her “love potion” in Jae-gyeong’s glass, hoping he’ll drink it and feel the effects. She doesn’t get to see whether it’s consumed, though, as the civil servant is quickly called to look at the destroyed hanging baskets, which have upset the mayor (we know Sin-yu was responsible for this damage from his car accident the night prior).

In the midst of a debate with Hong-jo regarding his unintentional wrecking of the hanging baskets, the lawyer requests that she take a day off with him so he can receive his spell. Surprisingly, this plan is given the all-clear by Seo-goo, who appears to be going through worries of his own.

What happens with Sin-yu’s use of the “cure disease” spell?

Together, Sin-yu and Hong-jo appear to begin bonding while on their trip. Firstly, it comes through some taunting of the civil servant’s hasty use of the “love spell,” then through care being taken to ensure she’s comfortably able to sleep during their long car journey to Jirisan. And finally, Sin-yu is candid with Hong-jo about the fact he’s allegedly “cursed,” hence why he intends to use the “cure disease spell.”

While Jae-gyeong sternly ensures Hong-jo’s colleagues delete the footage of her botched confession towards him, Sin-yu prepares for his “cure disease spell” ceremony alongside his civil servant ally now they’ve plucked the required flower they’ll be using.

That night, the pair complete the ceremony together, though once it’s completed, Sin-yu wishes for Hong-jo to go inside without him. For his heart is beating rapidly, and he appears powerless to stop himself from saying things like how “pretty” she looks in the dress needed for the spell.

As Sin-yu has a “nightmare” of what appears to be a past life, he worries his health has actually regressed in the hours since the spell was conducted. Thus, he hurries Hong-jo to get ready so they can leave Jirisan.

Why does Hong-jo believe the “love spell” worked?

However, Hong-jo is in jubilant spirits. She now believes the “love spell” worked, given Jae-gyeong called her, expressed his worry over her work non-attendance, and made plans for the pair to meet after work the next day.

At work, Hong-jo panics when discovering Seo-goo has drank from her tumbler, which contains the love potion and starts a back-and-forth with her boss. Yet Ma Eun-young, who is returning to work following her divorce, breaks it up and shows off her forthrightness by organizing a compulsory team dinner.

When Na-yeon visits Sin-yu, the lawyer decides he’ll properly break up with his partner. It’s fairly awkwardly delivered on his part, though, given no reason for the split is given, and as such, both parties appear dissatisfied with what’s happened.

That night, Hong-jo meets with Jae-gyeong, and all appears to be going well between them.

Outside the café, Sin-yu watches on, perhaps wanting to see for himself whether the “love spell” indeed worked. Yet interestingly, the lawyer at one stage looks ready to intervene before he halts himself.

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 3 Ending Explained

Suddenly worried, Sin-yu heads back to work and checks some CCTV footage. Here, it’s revealed it was actually the lawyer who seems to have consumed the love potion, which explains why he’s found himself treating Hong-jo with greater fondness.

To end the episode, Sin-yu waits for Hong-jo outside of her house and bluntly tells her both he and Jae-gyeong like her.
