Summary
“From the Ashes” handles Mel’s miscarriage respectably, although it makes for a tough watch overall. The show was riding a high with the wildfire plot, but it now returns to the over-the-top theatrics and tired cliches that viewers are now accustomed to. That being said, there is still room for some emotional goodbyes and more heartwarming town camaraderie.

In the aftermath of the wildfire, the citizens of Virgin River attempt to rebuild their town and their lives. “From the Ashes” focuses on all of the fallout from this major event.
Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) try to move on after their devastating news, and Hope (Annette O’Toole) launches a food and clothes drive for the town’s evacuees.
Virgin River Season 5 Episode 7 Recap
The episode opens with a montage exploring the destruction of the wildfire throughout Virgin River. Brady’s cabin is destroyed, as are many other parts of the neighborhood. Jack and Mel return to their own home after the miscarriage, and Brie drives back to Virgin River after her traumatic trial.
Hope is back in charge at the next town council meeting. The locals are angry and desperate to rebuild their broken lives. Hope promises that they are trying to get all essential services up and running once more. She proposes a drive to help reinvigorate the townsfolk.
Mel and Jack struggle with their grief after the miscarriage. Mel doesn’t want to have to tell the locals her bad news, and Jack is needed back at the bar. She spends the day packing up her baby items, heartbroken by yet another failed pregnancy.
What does Doc offer Cameron?
Cameron confronts Doc about his eyesight issues. Doc finally apologizes and explains his thinking. He wanted Cameron to take over the clinic when his eyesight worsened. Cameron is taken aback by this news and asks for some time to consider the offer. Doc is frustrated by Cameron’s lack of commitment, though.
Kaia heads over to Preacher’s home, unsure why he has been ignoring her messages. They discuss Kaia’s marriage. She states that things are over with Jay; they have separated.
Preacher asks for some time to think it over. But it is clear that they both have strong feelings for one another.
At Jack’s Bar, Brady moves in upstairs, and Jack confides in Preacher about the miscarriage. Preacher tells Jack to focus on the good. They will have a family together one day.
Will Lizzie be going to college?
Elsewhere, Brie and Brady reunite. She tells Brady that she can’t trust him. Although Brady is trying his darnedest to get out of the criminal world. He can’t tell her about his partnership with Mike though. And Lizzie informs Denny that she won’t be going to college. Denny agrees to stay in Virgin River long term, promising to get a job.
Brady continues his informant duties, recording his next meeting with Melissa Montgomery. She tells Brady that she is going to use Jack’s glamping business as a way of money laundering. Brady passes this recording on to Mike. The detective still needs further proof, though.
After Lilly’s farm burns down, Tara decides to leave town for good. She has a tearful goodbye with Mel. Then Mel meets with Ava, who is still considering her options.
Hope has convinced her to sell the farmland to the right person, so she agrees to stick around during the sales process.
How did Brie’s trial conclude?
Brie informs Mike that Don received a guilty verdict in the trial. She feels utterly numb from the whole experience, though. Mike apologizes for being too forward in Sacramento, but he promises that they are just friends now. Brie is happy to have his support and friendship.
The following day, Hope leads the food and clothing drive. Hope offers Lizzie a new role as chief of staff to the mayor. Lizzie accepts the position.
Elsewhere, Muriel asks to move in with Cameron after her house burned down. Cameron accepts Doc’s offer to be in contention to run the clinic when the time comes.
Hope delivers a rousing speech about the town’s camaraderie. She talks of rebuilding Virgin River and the town rising from the ashes. Hope thanks the citizens and the firefighters for their bravery.
Who does Kaia choose?
Kaia speaks with Preacher in private. She informs Preacher that she is getting a divorce, she chooses Preacher over Jay. Kaia wants to give this new relationship a shot. Preacher apologizes for taking the news so poorly and the couple kiss. Awkwardly, Jay then heads over. It seems a rivalry may be brewing between these two. Jay is not over Kaia and he makes this perfectly clear with Preacher.
Virgin River Season 5 Episode 7 Ending Explained
The installment ends with Brie and Mike chatting. Brady watches from a distance and heads over to confront them both at the drive. He gets rather angry and even squares up to Mike, but eventually, he stops himself from turning things violent. Mike promises that they are just friends, but Brady won’t accept it. Brie then decides to end things, making their break-up official.
