Virgin River is a romantic drama series from Netflix, based on the long-running novel series of the same name, which was written by Robyn Carr. This hugely successful original series was developed by Sue Tenney, debuting all the way back in the winter of 2019.
In the fifth season, we find the citizens of Virgin River banding together in a time of crisis when the town is faced with its greatest threat yet: an out-of-control wildfire. The townsfolk must work together to save their homes and businesses before the fire destroys everything that they’ve ever built.

Amidst this meteoric catastrophe, the many characters of Virgin River continue their own independent and interconnecting storylines.
There’s more from Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) as they contemplate the complications of parenthood, while Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) is never far from their thoughts.
And there are many shifting dynamics down at the clinic too, along with multiple wholesome romances in this hotly anticipated latest season. But will Netflix be eager to renew the series for a sixth outing after five seasons and over fifty installments, or has the show lost its spark?
Will there be a Season 6 of the Netflix series Virgin River – renewed or cancelled status
Virgin River has been renewed for a sixth season. The news was announced long before the fifth season had even aired, all the way back in May 2023. The dedicated fan base behind this beloved series will be pleased to hear that Virgin River will be returning for at least one more season.
In the meantime, it is worth noting that the fifth season has been split into two sections. The first ten episodes will be released on September 7th, 2023, as part one, with two more episodes coming on November 30th, 2023, in part two. These two specials will be holiday-centric installments concluding the fifth season with plenty of Christmas-themed drama.

After the fifth season’s conclusion, fans may be in for a bit of a wait, though, what with the ongoing strikes putting a hold on the majority of productions.
The series has released new seasons consistently every year since 2019, so it would be a shame if the sixth season was postponed for another year, yet the unpredictability of the current strikes means that all productions are still up in the air.
The show was renewed for a sixth season a few months before the strikes had even begun, but it will undoubtedly be delayed by them further still.
The series originally grew in popularity during the last Hollywood shake-up, when the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns changed the industry forever.
Since then, Virgin River has become a huge hit for Netflix, and it looks likely to continue that trend throughout 2023. As always, we will keep you posted on any updates with the release schedule of the sixth season of Virgin River.
