All or Nothing: The German national team in Qatar Review

The sandy, rich lands of Qatar were the home for the World Cup in 2022, despite much criticism and backlash, and if people are interested in seeing more of this country, there are small snippets into their time there.

The series starts on May 5th, 2021, 18 months before the World Cup Final, and delves into the inner workings of the team during the intense tournament period. With first-class interviews with players of the team, trainers, and fans, they’ve even secured manager Hansi Flick, who gives its viewers a personal insight into their journey.

Behind the scenes, you’ll see how some of the players are hotheads and get into fiery arguments. How Flick used geese (yes, really) to teach the players how to play as a team. And how the Germans were keen to address Qatar’s human rights record.

Famously, ahead of the Japan game, the players put their hands over their mouths during their team picture after FIFA declared teams that wore the ‘One Love’ armband would be punished. They discuss the process and how their protest hindered their buildup and took away from the spirit of the game.

What always gets me about sports shows and documentaries is the clips of the insane vast amount of fans. There are seas of people flooding to fill these humongous stadiums to watch these players do their job.

Whether you’re a fan of the sport or not, you have to admire the influence and inspiration they give all over the world.

Overall, this series is a story of tragedy, drama, and high intensity as we watch how the team rose like a phoenix from the ashes and then plummeted.

Is All or Nothing: The German national team in Qatar good or bad?

Yes — it’s a serious docuseries that captures football at its best and worst. At its heart, the sport is about dedication, passion, and teamwork, but there are a lot of dirty tactics and intense routines that go on behind the scenes.

Is All or Nothing: The German national team in Qatar worth watching?

Football’s reputation is constantly changing in the media and amongst fans, and the sport has never been more exciting. If you’re a football fan, you’ll be deeply interested in this series and the behind-the-scenes content it has to offer.

If you’re not a football fan, you might find it goes over your head a little. It is also in German, so subtitles are available — but, hilariously, Flick swears in English.
