Summary

A consistent offering sets the scene for the show’s second half.

We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Destined with You Season 1 Episode 8, which contains significant spoilers.

Over the first half of its run, Destined with You has certainly remained consistent. Its humor is well-placed, the plot is interesting, and there is a solid job being done of building on narrative threads that are established. The idea of curses being added into the mix amongst spells is certainly an intriguing touch and looks like it’ll be a major part of the remaining weeks.

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

What is the fallout between Hong-jo, Sin-yu and Na-yeon?

Picking up where we left off, Hong-jo pulls away from Sin-yu’s kiss, concerned that he’s “playing” with her. Then, the civil servant tearily draws a line between herself and the legal advisor, before walking off.

At home, Sin-yu is in a reflective mood, thinking back to how Na-yeon had sternly told him to “end it all” regarding his potential feelings for Hong-jo. Concurrently, the civil servant finds herself somewhat belatedly frustrated that she received a slap from the legal advisor’s partner, so arranges to meet her prior to work.

There, Hong-jo prepares to tell Na-yeon the truth about her apparent closeness with Sin-yu, though later confirms to the legal advisor she avoided mentioning their kiss from the night before. When asked why, the civil servant passes the event off as a mistake, one she hasn’t assigned meaning to.

Next, Sin-yu worries that someone could be stalking Hong-jo, hence why pictures of the two of them spread to Na-yeon, so he contacts a prosecutor to see if the phone number responsible can be tracked. As it turns out, the civil servant has similar nerves around being stalked based on what her former friend had told her at their meeting.

As Jae-gyeong gives Hong-jo a ride home, and invites her to a “gathering” for couples he needs to attend, Kim Wook joins Yoon-joo for some stargazing, with the two both opening up to each other about their respective needs to receive, and give love. Then, at home, Yoon-joo continues to feel like an afterthought by Se-heon.

What happens with the wooden box?

Alongside Sin-yu, Hong-jo travels to the location of the shrine the wooden box containing the spell book was found in. This is because Eun-wol has said returning it to that specific place will give a chance for everything to be “settled” between the pair.

When on their way to bury the box, Hong-jo falls while holding the antique, exposing the existence another spell book. Only this time, it’s one which seems to contain curses. Looking slightly worried, Sin-yu takes it out the hands of the civil servant, wanting them to focus on burying the item instead.

How do Sin-yu and Hong-jo respond to the doll being discovered?

To make matters more intriguing, a hanging scarecrow-like doll is then revealed to the protagonists, who spot that it’s wearing Hong-jo’s pyjamas, and has the name of Sin-yu attached to it. In conversation with the police, the legal advisor expresses his concerns that this action shows signs of theft, trespassing and stalking.

Later, Hong-jo thanks Sin-yu for what he’s done to offer help. In response, the legal advisor asks for a date (it’s set up that this is to help catch the culprit of the potential stalking case) with the civil servant.

This request is granted, and though Hong-jo is initially worried about who could be watching or taking photos, she manages to have fun with Sin-yu on their “fake date.” The two bond and get to know each other well here, or at least it seems that way until the legal advisor offers up something resembling a confession of his feelings. This leads to Hong-jo gently rebuffing Sin-yu, not wanting to be accused of taking Na-yeon’s partner again.

Next, Sin-yu starts post-date investigations on who could be responsible for both the picture taking, and the hanging of the doll. First, he questions an arriving Jae-gyeong on his whereabouts, then Joong-beom on his use of straw, with the latter in particular appearing annoyed to be asked such a thing.

Destined with You Season 1 Episode 8 Ending Explained

While Jae-gyeong reflects on not allowing Sin-yu (who is established as being ill at the moment) to set up CCTV at his home, Hong-jo becomes worried when the lights turn off at the site she’s checking. Then, when receiving calls from an unknown number, the civil servant prepares to hastily exit, plans which are made more urgent when she spots a hooded shadow.

To end the episode, Hong-jo trips and spots the hooded figure heading towards her.
