Dr Stone Season 3 Episode 12 Recap
3.5

Summary

A thrilling start to the second half of the season that does not waste time getting to the action.

When Crunchyroll viewers last saw Senku and his friends, almost half of them had been petrified during a trip to a new land they called Treasure Island — while season 3, part 1, adapted the beginning of Dr. Stone’s New World/Treasure Island Arc, 2, episode 12, is ready to finish what its predecessor started as Senku attempts to rescue his friends from the clutches of the Petrification Kingdom.

Despite being one of the most challenging missions yet, with their newly acquired platinum, Senku has precisely what he needs to save his friends and maybe even liberate the Petrification Kingdom forever.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 12 Recap

The episode opens with Senku successfully creating nitric acid. Gen wonders if they’ll be making guns now, but Senku says there isn’t enough for that.

After Ibara steals Ryuusui’s body, he has the local woman smash it to pieces. Still, Senku manages to revive Ryuusui by having Kohaku send the broken pieces back to be reassembled. Once all the pieces are received and put back together, Senku uses the nitric acid to revive him.

Ryuusui and Soyuz dive into the water to retrieve Kaseki’s body, but they cannot hold their breath long enough, so Senku makes them modified oxygen tanks using pieces of their mobile lab that are able to last for ten minutes.

Ryuusui and Soyaz are able to locate the bodies of all of their friends on their second dive but have to prioritize who they retrieve and revive first.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 12 Ending Explained

Ryuusui and Soyaz attempt to grab Kaseki’s body, but he is trapped in the sand. Despite only having four minutes left, Ryuusui realizes they have to revive Kaseki, or they will not be able to make any more oxygen tanks.

Ryuusui sends a message to the surface for revival fluid. He uses the fluid to revive Taiju so Taiju can use his strength to dislodge Kaseki.

Together, the group is able to dislodge Kaseki’s body.

Just like the first half of the season, part two doesn’t waste time getting to the action. It takes place exactly where episode eleven left off, so it doesn’t feel like there was ever a break at all. Sometimes, with two cour seasons, a show may feel the need to recap the first half, but thankfully, they didn’t here.

This felt like the perfect starting point for the second cour, as now viewers can finally see the rest of the crew’s reaction to the new island. Part one was all about getting nitric acid, so it feels like the second half of the season will likely focus on reviving their friends one at a time.

There’s a chance that approach could get stale, but the way Ryuusui veered to revive Taiju over Kaseki was a pleasant surprise, so I expect there will be more of those moments to come, keeping this arc feeling unpredictable and fresh.
