Summary
Elite Season 7 continues to revel in tedious, often illogical relationships, and this episode is dense with highly questionable moments.
Episode 4 was, on balance, probably the best episode of Elite Season 7. Episode 5, on the other hand, is not. At all. There’s a fair amount of batshit stuff here, the complete lack of momentum in Luis’s investigation subplot is beginning to get very tedious, and several of the relationship dynamics are circling the drain at this point.
We enter the back half of the season on a bit of a lull, then. Can things pick up in due course? Does anybody care?
Spoilers ahead.
Elite Season 7 Episode 5 Recap
“The Family” begins with Omar, not dead but certainly worse for wear, telling Dalmar to keep his suicide attempt from Joel. Things remain very frosty and dishonest between them.
Speaking of dishonesty, Raul and Sara are a big part of this episode. Things take a bit of a turn when Sara catches Raul masturbating to Chloe, and he – in true abuser fashion – thinks the solution to that is to try and sleep with Sara. She also continues not to vibe well with the self-defense class.
Instead, she has a slightly more sinister plan in mind which starts with befriending Chloe. More on this later.
Meanwhile, things are getting worse between Isa and Didac and their respective families, so the two of them decide to put their squabbles aside to broker peace, which is overheard by Luis (does he just sit there listening all day and night?).
Later, Isa overhears Roberta and Martin talking with Duran. Martin wants to put the club in Isa’s name since they can’t reopen it in theirs, and this will crop up again later too.
Why do Ivan and Joel break up?
Anyway, let’s talk about Ivan and Joel since this relationship started to aggravate me in this episode. They’re super cozy all over the place in full view of Omar, and he later comes home to find the two of them having sex on his bed. Talk about stress.
It’s actually Ivan who steps up to try and maturely rectify this situation, offering to break up with Joel if that’s what Omar feels he needs. He later finds Joel at his own home and tells him to return to Omar. There’s a difference between like and love, after all.
Joel later crawls into bed with Omar as though nothing had happened in the interim. It’s all very confusing.
What happens between Ivan and Carmen?
Anyway, Chloe and Carmen continue to bicker about money. Having learned that Ivan is selling his house and Cruz’s stuff, Carmen goes over there and catches Ivan alone. She helps him sort through some items while they drink and eventually get high.
The jig is almost up when Carmen and Ivan come across an old photo of her and Cruz together. She reassures him that it was a long time ago and that she was probably just being used as a beard so nobody knew he was gay. She clarifies Chloe is not Cruz’s daughter, but doesn’t mention her being Ivan’s mother. The drug stash provides a nice distraction.
It doesn’t have a good outcome, though. While she’s tripping, Carmen starts making out with Ivan, believing him to be Cruz, and oh my goodness. There’s no wonder she’s reduced to tears in the street outside, much to Ivan’s confusion.

Elite Season 7 Episode 5 Ending Explained
Sara’s plan is this: She has befriended Chloe to trick Raul into a threesome so that she can film him being unfaithful to her, earning the ire of their social media fanbase. Sara believes that Raul is so obsessed with his reputation that he would leave her over it, thus setting her free.
Chloe is tremendously upset at having been used in this way because of her promiscuous reputation, but after Sara confesses, she agrees to help. To prepare for when this inevitably backfires, Sara returns to Jessica’s self-defense class.
Finally, Martin offers Isa the club. Luis, listening to her later tell Didac, repositions Isa on his investigation board to a person of real interest.
