Animated hit series Sonic Prime seems to be rapidly approaching a conclusion with Season 3 looking to tie up all the loose ends from the previous run of episodes. Everything about the latest season seems to be building towards a major conflict and a real conclusion, featuring a final battle for the fate of the Shatterverse. This implies that Sonic Prime Season 4 won’t be happening. While this hasn’t been officially confirmed, it has certainly been implied.

Will there be a Sonic Prime Season 4?

Sadly, there seems to be no indication anywhere that there will be a Sonic Prime Season 4 and it appears that when the last episodes drop for Season 3, the story, for the meantime, will be concluded.
Twenty-four episodes of Sonic Prime were commissioned, making up three seasons of eight episodes, and it seems that this particular adventure was always going to be made up of a beginning, a middle, and an end. There are no indications that more episodes of Sonic Prime have been ordered.
Why is Netflix ending Sonic Prime on Season 3?
We can only speculate on why the show has not been extended, and there could be a couple of reasons why.
First of all, it may just be a case of the series ending as the story they wanted to tell has been completed, and that may be a good thing. If the showrunners can get to a satisfactory ending, then that may be enough for this version of the show. Although there may not be a Season 4, it could just mean the property is on a hiatus and will return better than ever in the future.

There is also the issue of viewing figures, and unfortunately, it is very difficult to get those kinds of figures from Netflix, but if the show has not performed as well as they hoped it would, that might also have led to the decision to cancel being made. According to Netflix Top 10, while the first season of the show broke into the top ten in 66 countries and managed to spend three weeks in the global top ten, Sonic Prime Season 2 only made the top ten in 25 countries and stayed in the global top ten only two weeks. This does imply a waning interest that might have contributed to the decision not to continue to show further.
When is Sonic Prime Season 3 coming out?
The exact date has yet to be confirmed for the show, but it looks as if the third season will drop in the middle of January 2024.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads:
“With the power of the Paradox Prism under his control Nine turns the Shatterverse upside-down. However, the Prism power is as unstable as its wielder, and requires energy trapped inside of Sonic to stabilize. Extracting said energy, however, means that Sonic himself may shatter! As the final battle for the fate of the Shatterverse – and Green Hill – begins, Sonic will be forced to make the ultimate sacrifice to save his friends and enemies alike!”
Who produces Sonic Prime?
SEGA, WildBrain, and Marza are behind the production of the show, with WildBrain serving as the animation studio.
Man of Action and Erik Wiese are named as executive producers.
Could there be another season of Sonic Prime?
Looking back, there have already been six animated versions of the show, so there is no reason why Sonic would not return in another similar format in the future. The property is so popular that we would imagine there will be news about another Sonic show sooner rather than later.
However, it does seem like Sonic Prime specifically will end with Season 3.
