Summary

A surprisingly happy ending rounds The Bequeathed out in a satisfying way after an intense finale.

I didn’t necessarily expect The Bequeathed Season 1 to have a happy ending, but the six-part series manages to have something close to one. Since the penultimate episode already revealed the identity of the real villain, Episode 6 is more focused on a tense set piece and then closure for each of its key characters. Let’s go over it all in some detail and explain why Myung-hee was so angry, how Seo-ha and Young-ho almost get turned into pottery, and what happens to those damn burial grounds.

What does Myung-hee want?

So, in the previous episode it was revealed that Myung-hee was the killer all along. And, of course, she wants the burial grounds, though she wants them for Young-ho to inherit since she’s discredited because of the whole incestuous relationship thing. She thinks that if Young-go gets the land he can flourish into a man after a lifetime of bullying and ostracisation.

This means getting Seo-ha out of the way, though she does intend to ritualistically save her soul first. Luckily, Seo-ha is able to buy herself some time by revealing that Young-ho is currently a guest of Tae-seong. She calls him up threatening to contact the police if he doesn’t reveal their current location, which sends him into a murderous rage. He nonetheless provides the address, though.

How does Myung-hee die?

When Myung-hee drops Seo-ha off at the location Tae-seong gave her, he and his people take her inside and brick her up in a kiln with Young-ho. Myung-hee works from outside to try and free them (or, more specifically, him), but she’s knocked out and shot in the leg. However, the arrival of the police causes a racket and the building is set alight. After working Seo-ha to free Young-ho and get them all out of there, Myung-hee realizes she will be brought to justice for her crimes and commits suicide by running back inside the burning building.

What happens between Park and Choi?

Detective Choi and Captain Park were able to finesse the location of the building out of Seo-ha and arrive in the nick of time to inadvertently save everyone. However, Park is shot in the process. He implores Choi to go on and save the women, happy that he has a new injury to blame his limp on.

This is, in a way, their relationship healing, since Park’s injuries sustained at the hands of Choi’s son years prior had created a widening rift between them. Earlier, Park had suggested that Choi should visit his son in prison for the first time. After Tae-seong and his goons are arrested, Choi retires from the police force and does this, working on healing the relationship with his son.

How does The Bequeathed Season 1 end?

The Bequeathed ends with Seo-ha opening a new art studio, free from legal recourse because Young-ho denied being kidnapped so she wouldn’t be implicated in the case. Despite this, though, the two of them aren’t in contact, and while Seo-ha claims she isn’t strictly avoiding him, it’s unlikely that the two of them will have a proper relationship in the future.

Seo-ha inherits the burial grounds and has Myung-hee’s remains interred there. While she might not necessarily understand the various relationships — some of them highly questionable — that led to this point, she nonetheless understands that they’re all family.
