Summary

Everyone gets an unhappy ending in the Baby Bandito finale, which is probably deserved in the grand scheme of things.

The ending of any heist story usually revolves around whether the robbers get away with the spoils. This isn’t the case in Baby Bandito, though, since Season 1 did away with the heist — loosely based on a true story —  itself very early. The rest of the season was more about how the success of the heist – and the temptation of the buried money – affected the characters, and Episode 8, the finale, really brings that theme to fruition.

To recap briefly, by this point in the story things are going rather terribly for everyone. The money is gone. Kevin’s father is dead. Amador and family are out for revenge, and Kevin has recently escaped prison during a hospital visit to see his newborn son. Things are only going to get worse throughout “A Good Friend is Worth More Than Gold.”

Does Panda sell Kevin out?

The finale starts with Kevin meeting up with Panda in the junkyard. Off-screen, Panda has had a haircut and a complete reinvention of his personality. He’s now well into the criminal lifestyle and reveals to Kevin that it was he who took all the money.

This gives Kevin the bright idea of asking his old mate for a loan of a cool couple of million so that he and Genesis can abscond. Panda seems okay with the idea too, but he’s simply buying time so that his ulterior motive of setting Kevin up can come to fruition. However, he overplays his hand by introducing Kevin to Pablo, the Russian’s son. They message Pablo’s mother claiming to be Kevin, suggesting Pablo is in danger, so the Butchers all rush to the junkyard.

At around the same time, though, Ana, Mistica, and Panther arrive. This makes Panda think that Kevin betrayed him. The Butchers arrive shortly after, a panicked Panda sets an explosive off, and suddenly a shootout ensues.

Who dies in the shootout?

While Pablo and Amador are both shot in the shootout, it’s Panther who ends up losing his life. This means that Kevin’s ambition has gotten both his biological father and his father figure killed.

Pablo doesn’t die; Natalia is able to get him away in the aftermath. Amador, too, survives, but he’s paralyzed and has to hand control of the business to Natalia. Mistica escapes, as does Kevin, who is gone from the scene by the time the authorities arrive.

Do Kevin and Genesis end up together?

Kevin doesn’t have a happy ending – he’s forced to spend the rest of his life (it’s implied) on the run. He’s unable to get back to Genesis, who ends up raising their son alone, and the love story meets a rather abrupt end. All this for some social media clout? Hardly seems worth it.

How does Baby Bandito Season 1 end?

The season ends by giving viewers a quick rundown of how everyone fared – and spoiler alert, it isn’t well.

As mentioned, Kevin has to go on the run and Genesis ends up alone. Panda ends up turning himself in and is incarcerated alongside the Russian, which doesn’t bode well for him given what happened to Kevin’s father. Amador, again as mentioned, is paralyzed and has to hand over the reins of the company, and Pablo turns to a life of crime, which was pretty inevitable when you think about it.

All in all, then, not a very happy ending. But a deserved one? Yeah, you could probably make that argument.
