The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy looks to continue the success of other adult animations, and the showrunner is banking on Season 2. While Prime Video hasn’t officially confirmed a renewal just yet, we’re reliably informed by the show’s publicists that showrunner Cirocco Dunlap already has a plan for what the second season will look like.

Has The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy been renewed for Season 2?

At the time of writing, there is no official confirmation of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy Season 2. However, while nothing has been set in stone, we have some very positive comments from the showrunner Cirocco Dunlap that she dropped in an exclusive interview with The Direct’s David Thompson.

The article starts by saying “the series was already greenlit for two seasons, giving potential fans a lot to look forward to in the future.” This suggests that the decision has already been made behind the scenes and simply hasn’t been announced to the public yet. Of course, if The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy were to wildly underperform with audiences, Prime Video would be tempted to rethink this decision.

What plans does the showrunner of  The Second Best Hospital in The Galaxy have?

In the same interview, Dunlap would go on to say that the first season would focus on “Klak’s journey,” and Season 2 will be “a little bit about Sleech”. Dunlap has thought about the possibility of future seasons and goes on to tell The Direct: “So I would imagine going forward, you’d get a different character each season, sort of a little deeper dive on each one.”

As far as a theme that runs through the show, the creator looks to focus on anxiety and medication, which makes sense in a show about a sci-fi hospital, explaining that “the show is about to show ‘a variety of examples of anxiety’ rather than just a stereotypical representation.”

How has  The Second Best Hospital in The Galaxy been received by audiences and critics so far?

In our review of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, we said that despite the stylish animation and color palette, the writing lets the show down a bit. Our rating was a middling 2.5 stars out of five, so we landed right in the middle of the road.

Decider urges viewers to stream the show, though, praising its overarching plotline. The Daily Beast also enjoyed the show, calling it “a gem”, however, The AV Club were a little more incisive, noting that many of the jokes fail to land. Radio Times were over the moon with show, giving it five stars, and boldly stating that as far as Season 2 goes, “Prime Video has already commissioned Season 2, and we couldn’t be happier.”

Viewer reactions on social media do seem to be limited, but there are users on X who enjoyed their time with the show:
