The consequences of the club shooting have spread across the city in Episode 6 of Tokyo Vice Season 2. With Hayama stepping up to the plate following the death of Ishida, Sato is scrambling to figure out what his next moves are. The shooting has caused Jake to try to find out how to bring down Tozawa for the entire thing while the cops are using all resources to do the same.
It’s another strong, balanced episode for Tokyo Vice. Let’s break it all down.
Who dies in “Choose You?”
We pick up where we left off in Episode 5 with a group of men rushing Ishida in a car to safety after the massive shootout at the club. They get him to a safe area when Hayama storms into the room and asks Sato why he went to the club without protection. With them unable to take Ishida to the hospital, he slowly dies in Sato’s arms.
Jake arrives at the crime scene to find out if Samantha is okay. Detective Katagiri tells Jake that Samantha is okay and shares a few minor details about the case. Jake calls Sato to ask him how he is doing along with Ishida, and Sato warns Jake that things are about to get ugly and he should stop calling.
Tozawa is questioned by the police, who ask about his feud with Ishida. However, he said that he and his team were involved in the shooting. He slides pictures across the table and says they ate dinner during it. Tozawa sees Detective Katagiri walk into the bathroom, where the two share some choice words. Later, all the phones the police tapped of Tozawa and their crew showed no calls about a hit on Ishida.
Katagiri heads to ask Hayama why Ishida was in the club that night. Hayama explains that they should be looking at Tozawa and that he has taken over the head of the table. Katagiri threatens him, saying there will be no retaliation or severe consequences will be thrown their way.
Jake and Samantha sit down to discuss what she saw that night. She said she saw a tattoo on one of the men and drew a picture. Samantha said she was afraid because Tozawa saw her at the police station and called her out by name. After Nagata and Katagiri look into the tattoo, they realize they are part of the Hishinuma-kai crew. When they went to visit, one of the men who had the tattoos was found dead.
What does Hayama want Kaito to do?
Hayama meets with Sato’s brother, Kaito, to tell him about Ishida. He explains that Tozawa will not stop until they kill everyone in their family. Hayama said Sato was his next target and that Tozawa would recognize a Chihara-kai soldier a mile away. Of course, Hayama was goating him into agreeing to help them, which Kaito volunteers to protect Sato. He hands him a gun and tells him where Tozawa will be that night.
Sato had Hayama followed, and the man reveals that Hayama had met with Kaito. He rushes to his brother’s dorm, where he sees a picture of Tozawa pulled up on the computer. We see him storm to stop Kaito and be able to do so. Sato tells him that it was a suicide mission that Hayama sent him on. We see Sato storm into Hayama’s office and confront him, but Hayama says that if Sato gets in his way, he will kill everyone he loves.
The newspaper publishes the story but puts Samantha at the forefront, leading to Jake confronting everyone at the paper. Eimi tells Jake to stand down, or else he can find a new place to work. After the confrontation, Jake decides he will go on the trip back home. However, Eimi’s boss confronts her at the station, asking what Jake said about Tozawa. She says Jake thinks he is responsible, and her boss tells him to let him work the case as he wants to bring Tozawa down.
Sato visits Samantha to let her know they must not see each other anymore because being around him is unsafe. She asks him to come upstairs, and while he says he can’t, the two end up sleeping together.
