Summary
Ansel Elgort’s work as Jake Adelstein continues to impress with the range he brings to the character. The writers continue to have the hot hand as we set up for an explosive final three episodes.
As Jake heads home to visit his family, things in Japan are still recovering from the aftermath of the shooting. In Episode 7 of Tokyo Vice Season 2, Detective Katagiri and Nagata’s witness turns up dead, leaving them to start from scratch. However, when Katagiri hears something on the wiretap, he reaches out to Jake to help them pin down Tozawa.
Tokyo Vice Season 2 Episode 7 Recap
Jake is back Stateside with his family. Although everyone is elated to see him, his mother still throws some digs about him “finally” putting his family first in returning home for his father’s birthday. Jake becomes the talk of the party by telling stories about his time in Japan. An editor of the local paper, whom Jake looked up to as a kid, comes over to talk to him. He tells him that he would have a job if he ever decided to stay.
Who shows up to Ishida’s funeral?
The funeral for Ishida has drawn a big crowd. The crew is talking amongst themselves, saying they aren’t sure if Hayama could keep things together as Ishida did. He is in charge of everything until Tanaka makes the announcement. Out of nowhere, Tozawa arrives at the funeral, making everyone uneasy, but Hayama is furious.
Hayama tells his crew how he wants to jump after Tozawa and his crew ASAP. Sato speaks up, saying they should wait a bit, but Tozawa cuts him off, stating they must not be cowards and strike now.
Sato confronts Kaito to let him know how dangerous Hayama is. He tells him about how Hayama got drunk and killed their weapons dealer, along with Tozawa, who never put a hit out on him. Sato promises they will get out of this together.
What does Hayama do to Sato?
After telling his brother he would protect him, Hayama confronts Sato, saying he has eyes everywhere. Because of his actions, Hayama tells Sato that he is banished from them and he should never show his face again, or he will be killed.
One of the tattoed men who arrived at Katagiri’s house tells him Tozawa told him to kill Ishida. Although he tries to ask for witness protection, Katagiri informs him there isn’t such a thing in Japan. He explains that it only takes two murders to get the death penalty, and there were four bodies. So he tells the man that he better start talking and start with where he hid the gun from the night of the shooting.
Who dies in “The War at Home”?
The district attorney has agreed to give the man manslaughter in exchange for his testimony. Detective Nagata calls Katagiri to tell him the good news and that they must take him to testify. On their way to the courthouse, they are stuck in traffic, and we see a man on a motorcycle drive by and shoot and kill their witness.
How does Tokyo Vice Season 1 Episode 7 end?
From Tozawa’s hotel room, he got a call from the Minnesota Medical Center to talk about an outstanding bill. Detective Katagiri and Nagata thought Tozawa was in the no-fly zone to America, but he made it to get his health back in order. With Jake Stateside, Katagiri asks Jake to fly to Minnesota to get as much information from the hospital as possible. He asks him to do it now because they are racing against time.
Jake asks Dr. Walker a bunch of generic questions about his work. He notices he is wearing a rare watch and asks about it. When Dr. Walker blows it off, Jake says he would instead write an article about how great of a doctor he is and not someone who took money from a high-level criminal. Dr. Walker confirms he had the surgery with his men present, and they gave him a lot of money in exchange for keeping quiet.
