The battle of who is in charge of the Chihara-Kai delivers an impactful Episode 8 of Tokyo Vice Season 2. With Detective Katagiri and Nagata inching closer to taking down Tozawa, they enlist Jake to help them get it over the hump. However, when the Tozawa gang confronts him, he wonders what his next step should be.
Tokyo Vice Season 2 Episode 8
Eimi had one of her staff look into Baku (their boss), and he discovered he lived in Kansai, where he did a lot of reporting. He worked for the Osaka Times, where he wrote about Tozawa, meaning the two have a long history.
Detective Katagiri and Nagata are happy that Jake is back in town and believe they have people in their department they don’t trust. Because of this, they want him to run the article in the paper. The FBI arrested the Miura-gumi gang for money laundering, and Jake heads to talk to them about it while also dropping a hypothetical about Tozawa.
Jake runs the hypothetical by the FBI agent, who says she would look into it. Later, she calls him to tell him she looked into Tozawa and what he mentioned, which was a lie. Of course, Jake plays it off, thanking her for saving him from running the story. He approaches Eimi and says he must run this story, and she tells him not to tell anyone about it.
Detective Katagiri reenacts the shooting where his witness died. He starts to unpack the event with several retries when he realizes Detective Funaki had ducked as the men were pulling up, meaning he knew about the drive-by.
What happens to Detective Nagata?
Detective Nagata goes to her boss’s office to discuss the latest break in the case. Later, we see him call a meeting announcing that Superintendent Yamada will replace Detective Nagata. He explains to Katagiri that she broke the rules by transporting a witness who ended up dead.
Who dies in “The Noble Path?”
One of Hayama’s men hand-delivers Sato’s banishment papers. He tells Sato that Hayama ordered them to kill Tozawa’s man in the middle of the public, and his brother Kaito pulled the trigger. This leads to Sato confronting Hayama at a spa, where he tells him his brother is coming with him. Hayama orders his men to take care of Sato, but the two fight instead.
One thing leads to another, and Sato beats Hayama down and ends up drowning him with the help of everyone at the spa.
How does Tokyo Vice Season 2 Episode 8 end?
Jake gets a phone call from Tozawa’s right-hand man demanding that he meet them later for dinner or he will suffer the consequences. He arrives at the dinner with Detective Katagiri, and the man tells him to stop investigating the story. The man says if Jake publishes the article, they will visit his family before they hunt him down. Jake says they have all the power, so he will honor his request not to pursue further.
After they leave, Detective Katagiri tells Jake he must push forward regardless of what was just said. Katagiri says he is the only person that can take him down for good. He calls home to talk to his dad and ask him for his advance on his next move. His dad tells him if this is his only way through, he must do the job.
