Summary

This was an underwhelming episode that drove plot points but bored you to death. It was by far the worst episode of the season.

Time, money, and resources are becoming a problem for Wade and his team in Episode 7 of 3 Body ProblemAlthough he has laid out his plan to destroy the San-ti fleet before the four hundred years, Wade discovers that the money and resources might not be there. With his back against the wall, Wade barks orders that don’t make Jin and Auggie happy.

How long will it take the Staircase probe to reach the San-ti fleet?

With the probe traveling at 1% of light speed, reaching the San-ti fleet will take two hundred years. Within the probe, they have a gorilla. Jin asks what will happen to it during that time, and the scientist says it will die.

The scientist shows everyone that the gorilla has been alive within the probe for a month. He states that the testing has worked well enough that if it worked for the gorilla, it would work for a person. We see the gorilla get out of the probe and walk around the facility, demonstrating its ability to function like it wasn’t in the probe for a month.

After the demonstration, Wade explains to Jin that he will be going into hibernation. She questions who will run things, and he says he will be going into hibernation and waking up a week every year, handling business, and going back in. He explained that he was the only person who could handle this plan and would make it work.

Who does Wade want to go to space?

Wade announces they could only get 300 of the 1000 probes needed to make the Staircase probe reach the San-ti. Because of this, he came up with the idea to send a brain into space, but not just any brain, someone who doesn’t have much life to live and understands physics, chemistry, and rocket science. Wade pitches the idea of Will Downing.

Auggie quits working for Wade and shortly goes to the man who funded the nanofiber software she created to inform him she has leaked the software to everyone. He threatens her, but she says she is done and walks out the door.

Jin talks to Will about Wade’s project, and she tells him to turn him down. She attempts to lie and say they have other people, but he figures it out. The two share a heartwarming moment, where he tells her to tell him not to do it, and he won’t. Jin breaks down and cries, knowing she can’t tell him no.

How does 3 Body Problem Season 1 Episode 7 end?

Wade arrives at the hospital to discuss the entire plan with Will. Before he agrees to anything, Wade wants Will to sign a paper stating that he will side with humanity when the time comes for the San-ti’s takeover. Will refuses to sign the paper, upsetting Wade, but Wade says he is perfect for the mission and they will be in touch to work out all the details.

Tatiana is sitting at her house when the San-ti reaches out to her to talk to them about their plan. The lady on the TV said she was part of them and needed her help. We see Dr. Wenjie arrive at the grounds, where she initially sends the signal to the San-ti and runs into Tatiana. The two share a moment on the cliff and watch one last sunset before Dr. Wenjie dies.
