Palm Royale has found its groove by delivering another strong episode filled with drama and comedy and a fantastic performance by Laura Dern.
The secrets in Palm Beach are starting to pile up in Palm Royale Episode 5. As Maxine begins to unpack everything that happened the night of Douglas and Linda’s wedding, she realizes that the secrets she is uncovering could change the lives of everyone around her. At the same time, Linda and Virginia plan to use the names in the Rolodex to take the rich people down.
Shotgun Wedding
Maxine can’t understand what she read about her husband Douglas and Linda intending to be married. She confronts Douglas about it, who doesn’t know who Linda was, and realizes Maxine was talking about Penelope. He plays it off and explains they didn’t get married because Linda shot her father the night of their wedding and called it off.
Maxine heads to confront Linda, but Virginia stops her, saying she knows everything. Even after getting loud, Virginia explains that Linda isn’t a bad person, that things happened, and that she does care about Maxine. Ultimately, Maxine screams that she is upset and disappointed in Linda and wants her to relay that.
Maxine heads to the Palm Beach Daily News, where she searches for the newspaper clippings of the wedding night. She discovers that nobody was charged that night, nobody knew who fired the gun, and the weapon was never found. However, Maxine remembered the gun was in Evelyn’s secret deposit box.
Who was Linda trying to shoot?
Maxine confronted Evelyn about the night of the wedding. Evelyn tells the story about the wedding and how Linda didn’t love the idea of leaving her dad to Evelyn regardless of getting married. So, she attempted to shoot Evelyn and instead shot her father. Norma ended up covering up the entire thing to protect everyone.
Linda confronts Douglas about the deal he made. She says he hopes he treats Maxine better than he treated her. Linda reveals that Douglas cheated on her and got the girl pregnant.
At the golf course, Maxine gets drunk and attempts to get in her car, but Robert stops her. He drives her home, and when they walk in the door, the two share a kiss. Maxine tries to get him to have sex with her, but Mitzi interrupts them. When Robert checks in on Norma, Maxine realizes that Robert cares for Norma, allowing him to stay the night.
Palm Royale Episode 5 ends with Maxine burning the Rolodex
Linda comes over to tell Maxine the truth about what went down. She rebukes Evelyn’s notion that she tried to shoot her. Instead, Linda tried to shoot Douglas because she thought he was cheating on her. Of course, she shot her dad and was permanently in the hospital.
Norma said that night that Skeet would marry Evelyn, saying Linda would let that happen or she would go to prison. She decided to hang onto the gun for family insurance. Douglas wanted to know what his cut was to stay quiet. Norma gave him $100,000 and a one-way ticket to Chatanooga, and Maxine realizes that she is the woman that Douglas cheated on Linda with. In turn, we see Maxine burn the Rolodex and get rid of the gun.
