Under the Bridge, starring Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough, is based on a gripping true crime book, and aimed for an authentic shoot by using multiple Canadian filming locations to create the Saanich, Canada setting.
The book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey is a harrowing account of the murder of Reena Virk, a fourteen-year-old Indian-Canadian teenager attacked and murdered by a group of similarly aged students.

IMDb states that the series was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and as the true story behind the series played out in the Canadian community of Sannich in 1997, the location work manages to capture the feel and atmosphere of the area that traumatized the townsfolk when it occurred.
Reena Virk was living in Saanich in British Columbia when the terrible crime was committed, and the filmmakers would re-create the period and locations, adding to the aestheticism of the production.

Harrowing scenes within the series that take place in and around the water were recorded at Allied Shipyard, an area frequently used in productions where water is required.
In Under the Bridge, the search for Reena’s body is conducted here, as was the filming of her murder.
Production Timeline
- The book version of Under the Bridge was printed in 2005, after intensive investigation and research by author Rebecca Godfrey.
- It would not be until September 2022 that Hulu would announce that it had ordered an eight-episode series, with Quinn Shephard adapting the book for television.
- Godfrey would work with Shephard for two and a half years adapting the book for TV.
- Filming was allocated for the show between December 2022, when casting was announced, and May 2023.
- A teaser dropped on March 12th, 2024
- Under the Bridge debuted with two episodes on April 17th, 2024.
