Summary

The dual identity and murder mystery plots begin to dovetail as Miss Night and Day lays the groundwork for its final two episodes.

You can tell Miss Night and Day is heading towards its conclusion with an outing like Episode 14, which feels significant in both the dual-identity and murder mystery plots. Both dovetail right in time for what is sure to be a highly anticipated finale.

Mi-jin/Lim Sun’s in danger, Ji-woong’s close to the truth, and it’s all kicking off. Let’s break it down.

Mi-jin’s Deception Catches Up With Her

At the end of Episode 13, Mi-jin confronted the woman sending threatening notes to the office and realized she was after Na Ok-hui, who she accuses of impersonation. She knew the real deal Ok-hui, and the older intern isn’t her.

Recognizing the circumstances, Lim Sun asks for a background check. Meanwhile, she meets Ji-woong for dinner as Mi-jin and wakes up the next morning at her parents’ house at Lim Sun, with Ji-woong sniffing around trying to figure out why Mi-jin never wants to see him in the mornings.

The panic sends Mi-jin/Lim Sun literally running, but she’s eventually caught and the truth, to some extent, comes out. Ji-woong has already learned that Mi-jin’s missing aunt was named Lim Sun, and of course, Mi-jin’s mother is put in quite a predicament when she wonders whether she hasn’t managed to recognize her own sister.

Realizing that her deceptions are causing a lot of problems for multiple people, Mi-jin resolves to quit her job, but there’s still a case to solve.

Na Ok-Hui Is Really Kwak Geum-Hwa

Ok-hui’s real identity is revealed in Miss Night and Day Episode 14 to be Kwak Geum-hwa, who has a connection to both Ji-woong – the real Ok-hui was the first case Ji-woong was assigned – and also Mi-jin’s father, who had asked her for help finding his sister-in-law when the real Lim Sun disappeared.

Geum-hwa is guilty, there’s no doubt about that. The deaths of many women lay at her feet. She’d leave them for dead, impersonate them, and steal their things. Mr. Baek’s wife, as we know, was one of them. Lim Sun is implied to be another, but there might still be more to come in this regard.

Having realized who Ok-hui is, Mi-jin’s father goes to confront her and ends up locked in her tea shop, drugged with a fentanyl concoction. Geum-hwa uses him as bait to lure in Mi-jin and knocks her out at the end of the episode after messing her around with meeting locations.

It’s a dramatic ending, since Mi-jin is in real peril, and Ji-woong not only has to save her but has to potentially unpack whatever wizardry is causing her to morph into an older woman during the day. At present, this is the one major aspect of the show that remains unexplained, and it’ll be interesting to see how it’s woven in with the main plot.

That’s if Ji-woong gets to Mi-jin in time, of course, but this being a K-Drama, there’s roughly a 100% chance that he will.
