WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

If there’s one thing that Emily in Paris likes to revel in, it is the complicated love story of Gabriel and Emily. However, I must add that as I finish the fourth season, I’m seeing little point in them not being together anymore. At the halfway stage of Season 4, it looked like Emily and Gabriel would finally seal their story for good.

However, as episode 10 brings the finale, we enjoy a spin-off titled Emily in Rome, with Gabriel pining for her.

Emily Cannot Help Mix Business With Pleasure

Despite claiming she’s only in Rome for Marcello, Emily ends up mixing business with pleasure anyway, despite being mad at Sylvie for almost ruining her chances with the man.

But I have to admit, Sylvie is the biggest hypocrite ever—she struggles to mix business with pleasure and represents an older Emily.

Marcello is mad at Emily, feeling he is being used, so she makes the effort to visit him in his home village, where most of his company’s employees work and live. Emily insists she only came to Rome for romance, not business, so Marcello invites her to a company lunch to celebrate a colleague’s birthday.

Emily is understandably overawed by the village’s community spirit and the company employees’ silent yet comfortable way of life. She agrees with Sylvie that the company should not be sold.

But Marcello explains that his company is stuck in time and needs to be sold. Emily explains that the company he and his mother intend to sell to cannot be trusted and offers help from her agency, which Marcello is displeased with.

I understand Marcello’s frustration. As much as Emily claims she is not business-driven with her visit, she is 100% opportunistic.

An Office In Rome

Luckily for Emily, Marcello’s mother overheard Emily’s pitch to her son and arranged a meeting with her agency. This meant that Sylvie had to claim an office and invite their staff over.

The meeting with Marcello’s company does not get off the right footing, especially as Marcello and his mother know it’s not their office. They know the building’s owner. Everyone knows everyone in this community.

But Sylvie and her team pitch a proposal whereby the company promotes their way of life; the people and the company. She asks Marcello and his mother for six months to turn around their fortunes.

They agree, but Marcello once again believes Emily used him. At this point, even I’d think she was. But he turns up at the celebration party anyway and tells Emily to make the most of her last night in Rome (or so she thought!).

Gabriel Finally Gets That Star, But Someone Is Missing

Until this point of the fourth season, the writers were making the audience believe that Gabriel and Genevieve would be a new item. Genevieve manipulated the situation to get Emily out of the picture, but her plan to romance with Gabriel has failed.

Gabriel is happy that his restaurant finally has its Michelin Star, but he feels that something is missing in his life—Emily. While celebrating in his restaurant, Genevieve is touchy-feeling, and he has to pull her aside to kindly reject her advances. He’s only seen her as a friend.

At least that subplot ended quickly.

Gabriel rings Emily to tell her the good news, but he has to leave her a voicemail instead, and he offers his gratitude.

‘Emily in Rome’

Season 5 may as well be called ‘Emily in Rome’ as that’s where the series will continue. Emily is super happy for Gabriel, but she’s also got some fantastic news—Sylvie wants Emily to run the Rome office, which means staying in the city.

Mindy relays this information to Gabriel, and he is absolutely gutted. After being inspired by Alfie (out of all people) to get her back, he asks Mindy for Emily’s whereabouts in Rome so he can visit her.

By the end of the Season 4 finale, Emily has a beautiful new apartment in Rome, and she’s enjoying the city with Marcello. Their romance is blossoming, suggesting that Gabriel has a long, hard road ahead to win back her heart.

Gosh, Emily and Gabriel are always complex. I speak for all audiences when I say this is frustrating.

Mindy Finds Inspiration

A character overlooked in the finale of Season 4 is Mindy, who finds inspiration for the next chapter of her life despite many setbacks and a breakup.

Mindy and Nicholas have broken up, and thanks to him, she is also disqualified from Eurovision because he used her song for commercial use. In her despair, she joins Emily in Rome.

While enjoying what Rome has to offer, she finds a man outside playing the piano. She finds inspiration and plays the piano for herself and sings while Emily records. It’s a great performance, and it immediately trends on TikTok.

Her fortunes immediately turn around, and Mindy is offered a star judge position in a televised singing competition. She ends up with a better opportunity than Eurovision.

Final Thoughts on Emily in Paris Season 4

The formula of Emily in Paris continues to thrive in Season 4. While Episode 10 did not provide anything conclusive, the series proves that the chemistry between the characters and the constant bubbling romances keep everything together.

The show’s fans will be thrilled that this soapy rom-com will continue to be renewed as long as the costs stay low. It’s hardly an expensive Netflix project.
