Shonda Rhimes is bringing yet another drama to Netflix, a murder mystery set inside the White House. The Residence, which has a proven track record behind it, will be released in March 2025. With a political setting and an impressive cast, this could be a must-watch binge-able Netflix show.

What is The Residence About?

The plot follows Detective Cordelia Cupp investigating the murder of White House Chief A.B. Wynter at an important state dinner. There are 132 rooms and 157 suspects, so the detective has a job on their hands. The series will mix a blend of mystery, satire, and drama, and it is loosely based on Kate Andersen Brower’s book “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House,” but it will take creative liberties.

Cast and Characters

The Residence has an impressive cast list – here they are:

There will also be a special cameo with Kylie Minogue as herself. It is worth mentioning that Giancarlo Esposito replaced the late Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), which adds some sadness and emotional weight to the series and, indeed, to the production and cast.

Paul Wiliam Davies (ScandalFor the People) is the creator behind the show, and Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton, Inventing Anna) is the executive producer.

Why this could be Netflix’s Next Big Hit

There’s no denying that Shonda Rhimes’ impressive track record makes this a series worth watching. Netflix hits like Bridgerton prove that she and her production company, Shondaland, have strong storytelling prowess. Whatever Rhimes touches turns to gold.

The cast also suggests that this is a heavily backed TV show. Uzo Aduba has come a long way since starring as “Crazy Eyes” in Orange is the New Black. She has played various roles and showcased her scope. More recently, on Netflix, Aduba played Edie Flowers in Painkiller and had a noticeable impact on the story.

But we cannot forget that when Giancarlo Esposito enters a scene, we are expected to be absorbed by his patient but impactful performances. The Residence is destined to have some clippable moments.

When and Where to Watch

The Residence will be released on Netflix on March 20, 2025. It will be available globally, and all eight episodes will be available at once for those who want to binge.

Who committed the murder? Well, we’ll all find out in March.
