Hey, credit where it’s due. Fatal Seduction Season 2 isn’t just a significant improvement over its predecessor, but it also has a proper ending, which, for a Netflix original, is pretty rare these days. The big questions are answered. The villains get their comeuppance. There’s no obvious tease for a follow-up. For that, at least, the show should be commended.
Since I’ve already broken down every episode of Season 2, I’m not going to waste your time. If you need a refresher of specific events, have a quick read through. We need to talk about the finale, and some of the key revelations and resolutions it contains. And we might as well get the biggest one out of the way first.
Who Killed Busi?
This is a major question that has haunted Fatal Seduction all throughout, and in Episode 10 of Season 2, we finally get our answer – Precious killed Busi.
We should point out that it was an accident. Precious was hiding from her abusive father, and in an effort to keep Busi quiet, she accidentally asphyxiated her. Crucially, Vilakazi had no knowledge of this. He had always blamed Precious’s father for the death of Busi and had killed him in revenge. Getting rid of her abuser had given Precious a kind of psychosexual dependency on Vilikazi that had persisted throughout the years.
However, this doesn’t explain why Jacob’s father was framed for the crime. That’s a bit more complicated.
Why Was Jiba Framed?
As Precious’s mother, Ivy, explains to Vuyo, she and her husband both worked for Vilakazi. She was Busi’s nanny, and her husband was Vilakazi’s driver. They would often take 16-year-old Precious to work with them, and it quickly became clear that Vilakazi was grooming her for sex. When something happened between them, Precious’s father kidnapped Busi. It was during Precious’s attempted rescue of her that she accidentally killed her.
Of course, Vilakazi assumed it was Precious’s father, but even that couldn’t be reported since a police investigation would expose his relationship with underage Precious (which his wife didn’t even know about). Hence, Jiba was framed.
When Vilakazi finds all this out, he attacks Precious in his club. Luckily, Nandi arrives in the nick of time to stab him with a broken bottle, killing him. It might not be the justice – specifically the public justice – that Jacob wanted, but it’s the next best thing.
Nandi Takes Control
Nandi uses her leverage over Leonard and Vuyo to secure her own future. In regard to the former, she demands a divorce, with threats to reveal his murder of Yusuf if he doesn’t comply. He has no choice. And for the latter, she uses Precious to frame him for Yusuf’s murder, reversing her own fate at the end of the first season.
This seems like a drastic measure, but remember, Vuyo had no compunctions about sending Nandi to prison, and only freed her because Zinhle was in danger. There’s a poetic justice to it all, and it’s consistent with Nandi’s characterization throughout the season (just look at how she dealt with Phila).
Nandi even gets one last night with Jacob, although she ultimately decides to call that relationship off to focus on herself and Zinhle. Jacob gets his happy ending, though, since he’s finally able to clear his father’s name.
