Jonathon Wilson

Jonathon Wilson is one of Ready Steady Cut’s co-founders and has been an instrumental member of the team since its inception in 2017, with a leading role as Senior Editor.

After leaving college, Jonathon ventured into freelance writing to develop a portfolio. He was commissioned in multiple digital and print magazines for fiction and criticism before eventually pivoting to a more managerial role as the News Editor of a video game start-up (Pixels or Death).

In 2015, Jonathon published his first book, “Disfigured,” which is available digitally on Amazon.

Since helping to establish Ready Steady Cut in 2017, Jonathon has remained involved in all aspects of the site’s operation, mainly dedicated to its content output. He remains one of its primary Entertainment writers while also functioning as our dedicated Commissioning Editor, publishing over 6,500 articles. His coverage includes film, TV, entertainment, anime, true crime, and K-drama.

Jonathon’s experience and expertise in contemporary media allow him to assist our writers in producing the highest quality content tailored for savvy modern audiences.

Jonathon was also individually approved for Rotten Tomatoes and gained that status in June 2020: here is his Rotten Tomatoes Profile.

Review – Focus

April 14 2017

I actually enjoyed Focus quite a bit. It’s a charming caper comedy which is perfectly content to be nothing more than that. It asks very...

Review – Resident Evil: Degeneration

April 14 2017

In a lot of ways, Resident Evil: Degeneration is the most well-realized video game adaptation in existence. The plot is jumbled, the voice acting is...

Review – The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies

April 14 2017

I’ll be the first to admit that I was very much among the naysayers when it was revealed that Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s...

Gone Girl Review – a spectacular and preposterous movie

April 14 2017

As a story, Gone Girl is utterly preposterous. It’s the kind of writhing narrative built almost entirely upon big plot swerves; one heavily reliant on...

Seventh Son Review – an over acted and terrible action-fantasy movie

April 14 2017

It’s actually kind of amazing that a movie so full of individually awesome moments can be as insultingly, unforgivably terrible as Seventh Son. It’s kind...

A Cure for Wellness Review – a horror that’s difficult to care about

April 14 2017

A Cure for Wellness is an old-school, Lovecraftian gothic horror picture that comes directly from the addled mind of Gore Verbinski – and Christ, you...

Review – Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Review Beauty and the Beast? Is there any point? If there was ever a movie that you already know whether or not you like, it’s...

The Hateful Eight (2015) Review – You know what to expect and Tarantino gives it to you

April 7 2017

It’s a Tarantino movie. Is that praise or criticism for The Hateful Eight? A warning or a recommendation? None of the above, really. It is...

Review – Taken 3

April 7 2017

There’s a sequence early in Taken 3 which I presume is supposed to be a tense on-foot chase; across streets, through alleyways, over fences, Liam...

In the Hitman video games, the most prestigious ranking you can attain is that of “Silent Assassin”. Earning the moniker isn’t easy; to do so,...

Review – Spy

April 6 2017

Paul Feig – bespectacled, rumpled, perpetually-tailored, like a harangued insurance salesman – doesn’t look like an especially funny guy. He must be, though, to keep...
