Summary

Abyss Season 1, Episode 5 was slightly better than the previous chapter; a little less muddled, but still outrageously ridiculous.

My brain hurts. Anyway, here we go — my recap of Abyss Season 1, Episode 5. The first ten minutes of the chapter are wasted by showing us a different perspective of what happened in the previous episode – showing us how Yeon-cheol kills Cha Min (Hyo-Seop Ahn). It was neither useful or meaningful, seeing the same event happen again.

Abyss Episode 5 sees Se-Yeon (Bo-Young Park) distraught over Cha Min’s death and spends most of the chapter trying to persuade the police department to focus on her view of the investigation. By the way, they still do not know she is Se-Yeon, so the fact they allow her to use police resources is dumbfounding. She manages to convince Dong-cheol that the deceased body is Cha Min and that the investigation should not be closed, despite pressure from his boss.

Luck strikes in Abyss Episode 5; they find Yeon-cheol’s fingerprints and Cha Min’s blood at the crime scene, giving more reason not to close the case. Se-Yeon visits Hee-Jin to try and get her help and tells her about the abyss.

Se-Yeon uses police cameras to try to find Yeon-cheol, and her method is seeking a bright light like the abyss in a series of neighborhood footage. Eventually, she finds a bright abyss.

Meanwhile, Yeon-cheol is busying trying to bury a woman he has just killed, but he leaves the abyss ball next to her, and she comes back to life. He does not seem too phased by this. He does not seem phased by anything.

Abyss Episode 5 then turns into a chase; Se-Yeon and Hee-Jin try to track down Yeon-cheol. Hee-Jin does find him, but she is too overwhelmed due to a series of flashbacks involving abuse and cowers away when he turns around. Due to this, Hee-Jin no longer wants to help Se-Yeon.

As Abyss Season 1, Episode 5 closes, Yeon-cheol believes he is tracking down Hee-Jin in hospital but finds another person in his hospital bed. It’s Cha Min.

Help me.
