Who is the double-crosser/mole in the K-Drama series The Silent Sea season 1 - Netflix

This article, “Who is the double-crosser/mole,” contains spoilers regarding Netflix’s The Silent Sea season 1.

So let’s get this straight; on the research station, the crew has to manage a viral infection, a violent intruder, and near the end, they have to fend off a mole who has double-crossed them. The sci-fi mystery throws many challenges at them, and when all hope is lost, one of their crew members turns the screw. It’s another twist amongst many twists in the K-Drama series and sets the story alight in an exciting ending.

Who is the double-crosser/mole in the K-Drama series The Silent Sea season 1?

It turns out that Lieutenant Ryu Taesuk is the mole in The Silent Sea. He’s working for RX Mercenaries, who want him to bring the water samples. Devilishly and slyly, Ryu Taesuk manages to deceive and hurt the crew intensely in the last couple of chapters of season 1. But, more confusingly, the question that leaves our lips is why? Why did he betray all his crewmates with who he had formed a bond?

It turns out that Ryu Taesuk had become disillusioned by past events on the research station. Flashbacks show Ryu Taesuk ordered to shut the gates on all the occupants on the stations, leaving them destined to be infected and die. This guilt riddled him for years, leading him on a secret mission to dismantle the crew’s effort to collect the water samples. He doesn’t believe they deserve lunar water and does everything in his power to stop them.

He’s also aggrieved with Han Yunjae, who was at the research station five years ago. He wants him to admit what he did that he was part of the atrocities that took place.

But by being the mole, Ryu Taesuk is the reason for the casualty list building up as he kills a few crew members to carry out his mission. He’s an example of a flawed, guilt-ridden human being. Guilt appears to be an overriding theme in the series.
