Summary

Now and Then continues to be at the top of its game. And while the character of Flora is proving to be annoying, the surviving members of the college friendship group are easier to root for/against. Again, a fantastic episode.

Now and Then season 1, episode 3 recap

In “Then”, Alejandro’s phone gets dug out from the river, with Sullivan commenting on Flora’s obsession. And shortly afterward, they question Sofia and speculate whether she was involved with him. And a quick flashback shows that Alejandro was arguing shortly before he collapsed. In “Now”, Pedro hides something as Ana comes to him, whilst Marcos begs Sofia to find somewhere to stay and that he will pay for the place.

Ana and Pedro rush to the school, as Luis (and Zoe) are being expelled after Luis started a fight with Zoe. And Pedro soon realizes that it has come from his earlier advice. When Marcos tries to pay for gas, his card gets declined (even millionaires can’t pay for it these days). In reality, his Dad has canceled his company cards. And a flashback shows that it was Marcos who had the problem with drugs and that Alejandro covered for him. As Flora obsesses over the case, yet again, Sullivan tells her to get some rest, whilst a flashback to “Then” shows that Daniela took up a job as a nanny for Hugo, aka the son of the female, Jessica, who died in the car crash.

There’s a match for the fingerprint from Daniela’s house, and Flora loves it. Pedro learns from Ernesto that the police are on their way to investigate the money. But when Pedro goes to retrieve the money that he hid, it’s missing. As Luis wet the bedsheets, he threw the laundry into the trash. And now, the money has been thrown away. Marcos learns from Isabel that Sofia has been taken away for questioning. He then discovers that his father has told Isabel that Sofia is Marcus’s ex-girlfriend.

Flora quizzes Sofia about the night of Daniela’s murder and brings up Sofia’s past. It turns out that Sofia has been arrested a few times. During questioning, Flora tells Sofia she wants to know how Jessica’s family turned into Daniela’s family. Ooo, how messy. Pedro searches through bags and bags of trash to locate his missing money. Ana visits her Mom, but she is unable to call her Mom. Instead, she calls her by her name, Gabriela, and she finds it even more painful to give “Gabriela” a hug.

Flora learns that Daniela was getting blackmailed before her death. After going for dinner with Marcos and Isabel, Sofia gets found by Beroni, the man she took the money from. But as he threatens to bury her in s**t, it appears that Sofia comes up with the plan to steal from Marcos’ death. Pedro finally goes to Ernesto that an investigation has been opened into the missing money. Pedro reveals that it is he who stole the money.

The ending

In “Then”, Pedro tries to kiss Alejandro. But when Alejandro doesn’t kiss him back, Pedro runs off in tears. With Sofia by their side, Marcos and Isabel go to a nightclub. They down shots as the “Then” blends with the “Now”. As a flashback shows Alejandro, Daniela, Marcos, Sofia, Ana, and Pedro enjoying themselves, it proves to be quite a moving scene.

Ana tells Pedro that she is selling her inheritance to her mother, and therefore, their money problems will be sorted. Pedro receives a call from Rodrigo, who is revealed through a flashback to being Alejandro’s father. Whilst Isabel is down for the count, Marcos and Sofia have another drink. And as you would predict, it doesn’t take long before Marcos and Sofia are “back at it”. Poor Isabel.

In “Then”, the friends are told that whilst the investigation continues, they are unable to leave Florida, whilst a mini twist reveals that Jessica didn’t die on impact. Instead, she was still alive and called for help claiming “they won’t help”.
