Summary

Chloe finishes with many questions still in need of an answer. And it’s safe to say that this series does not end in a nice little bow. But that’s exactly how life is at times, and I think that was precisely the point. Overall, a strong story with solid performances from its cast and writing team.

This recap of the Amazon original series Chloe season 1, episode 6, “She Called Me,” — the ending explained — contains spoilers.

Chloe season 1, episode 6 recap – the ending explained

After Becky snoops on Elliot’s mobile, she drops it and causes a crack in the screen. While at work, Becky tells Livia that Elliot scares her. But when Livia dismisses her concerns, Becky questions whether Chloe asked Livia for help, which she failed to give.

On the drive home, after berating Becky for cracking his phone, Elliot asks Becky if she wonders what it is like being in a relationship with her. Elliot then drives erratically and claims “that” is what it is like being in a relationship with her. Then, when they arrive back at the house, Elliot kisses her fondly but does not give Becky her car keys back.

When Becky learns that Richard is in the house, she begs him to help find her car keys. But he refuses, and Becky accuses Richard of getting high to forget how he abandoned Chloe. Unable to leave, Becky has to listen to Elliot’s speech. And as the event gets underway, Livia reveals that she knows that Becky is not Sasha. Livia accuses Becky of trying to steal Chloe’s life. And then, as Becky makes her exit, everyone, including Elliot, eyeballs her as she leaves.

Even though Josh reminds Becky that she is free, there’s still unfinished business for her. She needs to know why Chloe would kill herself and tells Josh that they can go to London another time. But tomorrow seems to be too late for Josh as she leaves as he wishes Becky “good luck.” Becky then visits Chloe’s parents. Chloe’s mother explains that it was as though life had left Chloe before she jumped to her death.

When Becky goes into Chloe’s room, she finds a letter from Chloe to her. Chloe writes that she was lonely and that she needed to make new friends, or she would be lonely forever. However, Elliot doesn’t understand Chloe’s friendship with Becky, and it appears that he stops Chloe from sending the letter to Becky. With the letter is an envelope with “to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die” printed on it. And so it seems that the earlier question of “who the you,” was Becky after all.

When Becky learns where Chloe killed herself, Becky believes that she was coming to see her. And then Chloe’s mother finally admits that she never actually saw Chloe jump off the cliff. And so, does that mean that Chloe was pushed? This time when Becky imagines Chloe calling her at 2:45 am, she answers, and they meet at the edge of the clifftop. And then they go driving in her car while singing along to the music.

The ending

A flashback shows that while Becky was playing with her sister Sasha in the bathtub, Sasha fell underwater. In the present timeline, Becky visits Pam and tells her that it wasn’t her (Becky) fault. But instead of agreeing or forgiving, Pam simply switches the conversation to the scones. Becky returns to Elliot’s house.

Elliot knows that she is there and calls out her name. She tries to leave but, unable to do so, has to face Elliot in the kitchen. He refuses to unlock the front door and demands an explanation as he believes that Becky was trying to make Chloe leave him. But when Becky tells him that Chloe wanted to leave him because he made her feel small, he becomes very aggressive and repeatedly shouts that he “f**king hates” her. Becky manages to grab the car keys and drives to the caravan park.

But little does Elliot know that Becky has recorded his angry outburst, and she releases it onto Chloe’s social media. Becky spends the night in Chloe’s caravan. Only to be woken up by Livia, who has also found the caravan. Becky plays Livia a recording of Elliot bad-mouthing Livia and appearing to twist reality to Chloe. And now Livia wonders if everyone, including Becky, is full of lies. She then scolds Becky for lying yet still babysitting her children. As Livia leaves, Becky gives Livia her new phone number.
