Control Z, a Spanish-language teen drama coming out of Mexico, became a surprise hit during the pandemic. Revolving around a group of teenagers who were targeted by a vengeful hacker with plans to disseminate their most closely guarded secrets, the series built enough mystery to justify a third season which proved similarly popular. Control Z was not canceled for Season 4, but we will not be getting it, mainly because the story ended with the third season.
Control Z Season 3 debuted on July 6, 2022, and with graduation lurking in the background, there’s an air of finality about the whole affair despite the return of the pesky hacker handle from the first season. Nevertheless, fans will no doubt be wondering about the show’s future, so here’s everything we know right now:
Why Control Z won’t return for season 4 on Netflix?
While “canceled” perhaps isn’t the right word, it has nonetheless been confirmed that the third season is the final season of Control Z.
Given the show’s very solid viewing figures (it has been consistently appreciated by audiences even while critics have been a little middling) this decision seems to be based entirely on the show’s narrative, which very much feels as if it has run its course. All of the core characters are due to move onto the next stage of their lives now, and graduation functions as a kind of ticking-clock device, building to a decent and thorough conclusion.
Since there is no reason to continue this storyline, I’d wager that the “cancellation” will be adhered to and this is the last we’ll see of Control Z.
What is Control Z?
Created by Carlos Quintanilla Sakar, Adriana Pelusi, and Miguel García Moreno and developed by Lemon Studios for Netflix, Control Z is a Spanish-language teen drama concerning a hacker who becomes disseminating the most closely-guarded secrets of the student body to the entire school. The main character, Sofia, is a socially inept but switched-on amateur sleuth who begins investigating the events as they begin to unravel various interweaving relationships and rivalries.
The second season of the show built to a big moment in which a character was killed, and the core cast all made a pact to never speak about their involvement in the death. This is where the third and final season picks up.
