Summary

A decent opener for Partner Track that could, if the first episode is anything to go by, be a juicy, soapy, and backstabbing ride of a series. While, at least for now, the characters don’t have the most significant amount of dimension to them, they have their place within the show.

Partner Track is the story of a young woman of color competing for partnership at a powerful law firm. But as she aims to succeed, will she be lucky to find love? Based on Helen Wan’s 2013 novel, here’s a recap of Season 1 Episode 1.

Partner Track Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Ingrid, like many of her colleagues, needs to land a deal, or they may find her career at risk. As the first lawyer in her family, there are going to be many trials and tribulations for her as she tries to battle through workplace drama and love life mishaps whilst trying to drive her ambition to succeed. But none of that matters right now; Ingrid is more focused on becoming a junior partner. But will love get in the way? Possibly, as she soon becomes distracted by Jeff Murphy, who may or may not remember meeting (and sleeping with) her at a wedding. And Jeff turns out to be the transfer from London. So it’s likely that Ingrid and Jeff are bound to see a lot more of each other.

Shortly into the working day, everyone at Parsons Valentine learns that Sun Corp, a big-time energy conglomerate in Houston, is acquiring Min Enterprises, which is a clean-tech play, for $2.9 billion. And Ingrid and Dan Fallon are determined to make their mark. Whilst at a work meeting, it seems that being a diverse woman seems to mean that many are quick to dismiss or blatantly ignore her presence. Whilst out for drinks, she bumps into Jeff Murphy, but after a brief chat, it’s Nick Laren that shows more interest in Ingrid. And shortly into the chat, he invites her to join him at the Plaza.

Marty drops by the office whilst Ingrid is away, and even afterward, Ingrid continues to get dismissed by her co-workers. When it comes to it, Dan steals Ingrid’s idea and wins the Sun Corp deal. Because she has lost the deal, Ingrid fears that her career could be over. But there’s always a silver lining as that now means she is free to join Nick at the Plaza. And when she gets there, she learns that Nick is the host. When a journalist pesters Ingrid, she makes a quick escape. However, Dan cannot stop himself from bragging about his current success to Ingrid.

Partner Track Season 1 Episode 1 Ending

After Ingrid learns the purchase price from a very drunk guest, Ingrid decides to head home to work. But not before she and Nick smooch each other. Ingrid calls Rachel and tells her that if the purchase price gets leaked, it will ruin the deal. So Ingrid decides to use it to her advantage and tells Ted about the potential leak. With a small team, including Justin, Ingrid tries to get the deal finalized before it leaks, which Dan just so happens to miss. And when he asks Ingrid what happened, she tells him, “I played by your rules.”

After single-handedly saving the deal, Jeff offers his congratulations; and then reveals that he “remembers.”.
