Does Ivan die in Elite season 6?

Ivan has been a major character for the last couple of seasons of Elite. The handsome son of a football icon, his involvement in a hit-and-run forms the essential mystery of the latest episodes. Does Ivan die in Elite Season 6? Who was driving the car? We have all the answers below. Needless to say, enormous plot spoilers follow.

Almost every season of Elite is built around a big event, usually a death, and the one in the sixth season involves Ivan. In the opening moments of Episode 1, we see him being hit by a car, and both the identity of the driver and Ivan’s fate are deliberately kept under wraps until the end of the season.

Let’s start with the essential questions and work our way outwards from there.

Who is Ivan?

Iván Carvalho is a major character in Elite, introduced in the fifth season and played by André Lamoglia. He is the son of famed Portuguese footballer, Cruz Carvalho, and his mother is barely ever mentioned.

Ivan is outgoing, flirtatious, and popular, though part of his arc has been struggling with and eventually coming to terms with his bisexuality. At the start of Elite season 6, he and Patrick are in a relationship, and the ups and downs of that relationship form a huge arc of the season.

A major turning point in this relationship comes when Ivan’s father, Cruz, comes out as homosexual and is later killed by bigoted thugs, sending Ivan spiraling into despair, depression, and substance abuse.

Does Ivan die in Elite Season 6?

No!

It’s admittedly a close-run thing, but no, Ivan doesn’t die in the sixth season.

Dotted throughout each episode are various flash-forwards and clues that are designed to both present new suspects as red herrings and tease Ivan’s ultimate fate, so it’s no wonder that so many people were frantically Googling whether or not he dies.

Having said that, though, Ivan is not in good shape as the season ends. In the finale, he just about comes to and whispers for Patrick, who unfortunately has already fled Madrid with Ari, Mencia, and their father, since it was Patrick’s car used in the hit-and-run and Mencia who was believed to be driving.

Who was driving the car that hit Ivan?

As mentioned above, there are many suspects throughout the season, from Patrick to Isadora and Ari. The show pushes various possibilities throughout the episode, but it eventually settles on what we believe is a concrete explanation in Episode 7. After Mencia is drugged by Raul, she gets into Patrick’s car, and the next thing she knows she is waking up with no memory of what happened. However, news of Ivan’s accident and the cracked car windscreen allows her to put the pieces together, and she assumes she is responsible.

Hearing this, Ari helps Mencia dispose of the evidence by burning the car, and also pushes Mencia and Patrick to leave Madrid with their father. Since Mencia still believes she was responsible, she agrees.

However, it is revealed in the finale that Sara was driving the car that hit Ivan. After finding Mencia in a state trying to drive, she tries to help her get home by driving the car. Her attention wavers and she hits an intoxicated Ivan, who has staggered out of Isadora’s playhouse to try and reconcile with Patrick after an argument.

Sara has nobody to turn to for help other than her abusive boyfriend, Raul, who covers up Sara’s involvement and stages the car so it seems like Mencia was driving. This is why, when she wakes up, she believes herself to be responsible.
