Summary

As things begin to fall apart for Somen, the series drama is at an all-time high. Another strong episode that continues pivotal storylines.

We recap the Hulu series Welcome to Chippendales season 1, episode 4, “Just Business,” which contains spoilers.

We had an explosive episode of Welcome to Chippendales, which saw Somen (Kumail Nanjiani) and Nick (Murray Bartlet) come to odds over several things surrounding Chippendales. Will this finally lead to Nick quitting? Or will Denise (Juliette Lewis) be able to keep him level-headed? Let’s dive into season 1, episode 4.

Welcome to Chippendales season 1, episode 4 recap

Otis is driving to work, and when he pulls up, the mailman is dropping off the boxes of calendars. He stops him to ask if he can see one. However, after going through each calendar month, Otis realizes he is missing from it. Episode 4 also sees us have a bit of a different opening, adding some of the characters to it, which I liked.

Ray asks Somen how many calendars did he order? Somen says not enough as some outlets have more than doubled preorders. Denise comes in to say that she needs Otis to help with some of the rehearsals. Ray asks where Nick is, and Denise says she hasn’t heard from him. Ray states I hope he is okay, Somen says, “I don’t, he abandoned us without any notification of when he may come back. I could kill him.”

Next, we see Nick pitching Chippendales to some people on the east coast. However, as he is pitching the idea, he gives it a new name, US MALE. The guys realize he is serious and is confused by the entire concept. They call it “sleazy,” and Nick leaves, knowing he may have to return to LA. At the Panama City mall, the Chippendales calendar models all arrive, but Otis looks on from the sidelines. Otis confronts Somen about being left out of the calendar. Somen breaks down that it was best for the calendar for him to be left out because he is black. However, he tells him not to take it personally and only one color that matters in business, and that is green.

Somen talks to a store owner who tells him he can sell as MANY calendars as he can get. Nick is sulking in New York when he sees someone performing, which he has set his eyes on. The duo shares a moment at the bar, ending up in bed together. After the night of sex, the duo now share stories about being out or not being out to the world. Now, Nick is telling him that he is in town pitching Chippendales, BUT, as US MALE and the man he is with explains that it is a terrible idea. So instead, he tells him to open the show in New York, and Somen will never know.

Back in LA, Somen is freaking out at the printer guy cause he can’t produce calendars fast enough. The guy mentions it could take 3-4 weeks to make the amount he wants and that he has other customers. Somen stops him in his tracks and says, “what if you didn’t,” (obviously talking about customers). Back at the club, Denise struggles backstage to keep things together until she gets a phone call and refuses to take it until she finds out it’s Nick. He tells her to pack her bags, and they are heading to the big apple. Next, Nick shares what he had in mind for opening the place in New York, but Denise is massively skeptical. Then, he says he has a backer for the place.

Otis hits the stage, and the ladies freak out like they always do. Somen brings Irene upstairs to tell her that he bought him a press that makes the calendars. However, Irene says that she is in charge of finance, and it’s not his call, but he says that he ran the numbers and it will work out. Otis sees the money the calendar guys are making and isn’t about it.

Next, Somen takes Irene to the fancy restaurant because he wants them to start playing the part of the power couple. However, they are met with some resistance which Somen believes is because of the color of his skin. After a conversation with the guy, he seems to be correct. Then we see Somen at the printing place where he looks at the calendar, maybe second-guessing, not putting Otis in it?

Nick has arrived, and Denise slaps the shit out of him but follows with a massive hug. Next, we see him go upstairs to Somen’s office. He announced opening a Chippendales in New York, and if he has a problem with that, he will open a club called US MALE. He lies more or less about the people opening their checkbooks about the idea, so he better be on board with it. He threatens to take everything from him if he doesn’t accept the offer. Somen is pissed off.

Welcome to Chippendales season 1, episode 4 ending

Irene confronts Somen about Nick returning, and he lies to her, saying that he is transferring him to his best idea to date, the soon-to-be-opened Chippendales in New York. Irene headed downstairs and said, “we are going to New York,” to Denise and Nick, who was elated. Backstage, Somen overhears Ray and Otis talking, and when he walks into the room, they look at photos Ray took of him. Otis said he is making his own calendar because he thought he’d make his own since he couldn’t be in his. Then, Otis says good luck to him and quits.

When Otis talks into the club, he runs into Denise and Nick and lets them know he has quit. Otis tells him that he can’t deal with Somen any longer and that he has to do his own thing now. Next, Ray walks into Somen’s office to apologize to him for taking the photos of Otis. He breaks down that he, no matter what, will have his back through everything.
