What characters are going to be in Sonic Prime? We delve into the characters for the anticipated Netflix animated series.

Sonic Prime is an animation series where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in the gloved hands of the speedy, blue Sonic the Hedgehog. If you don’t know who or what Sonic is, he’s a famous SEGA Icon character mostly known for being super speedy on his feet; he is described as a blue blur. Oh, and he’s a hedgehog.

People of all ages have enjoyed playing many Sonic games throughout the years. This is the most recent adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog, with there being several animated series based on the character in the past, as well as the more recent and successful Sonic the Hedgehog films that were released in 2020 and 2022. It’s not surprising that Netflix is looking to capitalize on the recent success of the character on the big screen, and with this being advertised as season one, I think we can confidently say there are plans for more seasons in the future. (Then again, this is Netflix, and we know how quick they are to cancel the shows we love)

This animated series will see Sonic the Hedgehog traveling across the “shatterverse” after a battle between Sonic and the villainous Dr. Eggman causes reality as we know it to break apart. To save his old friends, Sonic will go on an epic quest, meeting new friends and foes across multiple dimensions. This concept also gives the scope for multiple storylines and characters to make appearances. This CG animated series will have eight episodes in its first season, seven of which will have a runtime of twenty minutes, and one final special episode will have a runtime of forty minutes, making this series a great binge-watch for adults and children.

Sonic Prime is produced by SEGA, WildBrain, and Marza, with WildBrain serving as the animation studio for the series. Accordingly, the show takes place in the same settings seen in the Sonic games and will feature the modern version of Sonic. I’m sure this will please fans, as I know the settings and graphics are important. Also, this is the first time in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and media (including films and television series) will be dubbed in Catalan, Galician and Basque.

What characters are going to be in Sonic Prime?

There are a decent amount of characters in the series Sonic Prime, including classic alumni, and the voice cast on the upcoming series includes:

  • Deven Mack as Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ashleigh Ball as Miles “Tails” Prower
  • Adam Nurada as Knuckles the Echidna
  • Shannon Chan-Kent as Amy Rose
  • Kazumi Evans as Rouge the Bat
  • Brian Drummond as Dr. Eggman
  • Ian Hanlin as Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat
  • TBA as Orbot
  • TBA as Cubot

A little bit of fun trivia, Brian Drummond, who will be voicing Dr.Eggman, has previously voiced Knuckles in Sonic Underground.

Is Amy going to be in Sonic Prime?

Fans can rejoice that the classic Character Amy/Amy Rose will be in the series. For anyone not familiar, Princess Amelia Rose the Hedgehog, commonly known as Amy Rose, and formerly known as Rosy the Rascal, is one of the main characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is a mobian hedgehog with a major crush on Sonic the Hedgehog. Amy Rose is a pink hedgehog, and hopefully, this means the series will have a cute romantic storyline for the two.

Who will voice Amy in Sonic Prime?

Shannon Chan-Kent will be the voice for the character Amy Rose.

Another fun piece of trivia: Shannon Chan-Kent has previously played the Roadhouse Waitress in the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film.

Will Sally be in Sonic Prime?

From research, there doesn’t appear to be any cast member called Sally. For reference, Princess Sally Acorn is a character from Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Sally is a teenage anthropomorphic chipmunk with red hair, blue eyes, and light brown/tan fur (originally — there have been small changes and modifications over time). Sally is a beloved character so I think fans will miss her in this series.

Upon further research, I think the series will be excluding Sally Acorn, Antoine, Rotor, and other characters from that specific era. However, this does leave the door open for characters from popular IDW comics such as Tangle, Whisper, Surge, and others.

Saying this, with the storyline being across multiple dimensions, there is no saying any to these characters being introduced in future seasons.

If you’re a huge fan of these characters/eras, many will be featured in the third Sonic the Hedgehog film, which is set to be released in 2024.

Will Shadow be in Sonic Prime?

SEGA has been teasing the return of Shadow the Hedgehog in the animated series for months, and luckily we can now see him in the cast breakdown. However, little information has been provided regarding his involvement in the series. In the teaser trailers, there’s no significant footage that shows Shadow, but as a pivotal character, I wonder if they’re keeping his part as a deep dark secret to surprise fans. I know a lot of people will want to see him in the series, so I also think they might bring him in the special 40-minute episode and leave it as a cliffhanger for a second season.

Then again, the most recent trailer shows Shadow pushing through some kind of multiversal glitch, so maybe the anti-hero will play a bigger part than anticipated.

Shadow is typically Sonic’s arch-enemy, but his levels of villainy tend to vary. Most of the time he’s out to cause serious trouble and harm, but sometimes it’s just a mildly friendly rivalry with Sonic. Maybe he might turn good and help Sonic against Dr. Eggman? Since his debut, Shadow has appeared in a multitude of games, television shows, and comic books, therefore, I’m confident that as one of Sonic’s biggest rivals, he will have a decent storyline in this series.

And so those are the characters that are going to be in Sonic Prime! What are your thoughts? Comment below!
